Hi!

I have a 16:9 NTSC DVD I wantto convert to 4:3 SVCD. The SVCD should have permanent subititles - that is no problem.... But what I would like is the subtitles to be placed in the black area beneath the picture - instead of on top on the "movie picture". Is this possible ? I wonder if it the "Std. Y-Pos PAL" parameter that is used for this (since the NTSC is converted to PAL) - or the "Std. Y-Pos NTSC" (if the subtitles are merged onto the videostream before converting it to PAL). The value in these input-boxes - does it specify the offset in pixels from the top of the picture (meaning, that a value of 0 will put the subtitles in top of the picture - and a value of eg. 476 (for PAL) will result in the subtitles being placed in the bottom of the picture ?

Had same problem, and just sorted out this 2 days ago. Use for Y-pos PAL nad/or NTSC (personnally, I put same value in both, in the Subtitles tab) values between 470 (nicely, below the image) to 500 (somewhere,in the middle of the black strip). More than that, the eyes will get tired from jumping to subtitles and back to the picture.
Changing the Y-pos values from -1 into positive values, and increasing them, will have as effect a gradual scroll, from the top towards the bottom of the screen.

btw, my conversions are keeping the aspect ratio, but i do NTSC to PAL, for quality reasons (my TV in multisystem). did not try on 16:9 to 4:3
