IFOEDIT and NERO

Hey ya'll I have been havin some trouble with gettin Nero to burn one of my DVD's...I used one of the guides on here to burn my DVD-9's to 2 DVD-5's, but Nero will only burn the second disc not the first one...An error comes up when I try to burn that says "One of more files (mostly VOB files) do not correspond" What is that sayin and why would it do that if the second disc works?


PLEASE HELP!!!!

OK so i tryed to do it again with Armageddon instead of BLACK HAWK DOWN and this time neitehr disc would burn...same error...someone please give me some links to other guides for splitting DVD-9's into 2 DVD-5's...thanks

that messages tells you that something went wrong while you were using IfoEdit. Most likly you skiped a step or you did it in the worng order or you didn't use the correct version of the files while you copied them and so on...

BUT: Nero also gives some wrong error messages like "vts_02_0.vob isn't referenced, needs to be removed". That's definitely not true since Angel Eyes uses a 24KB menu vob file.

What you can try is to start IfoEdit, load vts_01_0.ifo and the use the vob extras and keep everything. Now copy the menu and the video_ts to the new folder. Then use the menu extras on vts_01_0.ifo and keep everything. Now copy back the new menu to the location of the vob files. Do this for all ifos and it should work.

Are you sure it's not just the checking in the later version of Nero for DVD-Video which are a bit over the top?. If so just create a DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) and then move your VIDEO_TS directory to the root in Nero and you'll find it'll burn fine and playback.

actually those dvd-video tests are a bit over the top but as someone else in this forum already wrote: if you pass those tests you can be sure you'll be able to play it on nearly every standalone.

Try the following: Rip a few dvds. Don't touch those rips with IfoEdit or anything else just copy the dvd to your hd and try to burn them with nero. Nero will complain about the size but you'll see that all dvd-video checks are passed. So if the content is created in the correct way the tests are not the problem. I get those error message on about 50% on all rips I do. But I try to figure out why there might be a problem and can then fix it within minutes.

ok TM so instead of just loading the vts ifo's for just the main movie you want me to load them all into IFOedit and follow the guide that I had been using before...Most of the movies i rip the main movie is usually no where near the first title set...generally its like the 4th title set...I have burned using Nero and the option DVD_ROM (UDF/ISO), but the menus never work like using DVD-VIDEO. The movie generally plays fun...one time they started speaking in French and a couple of short scenes are repeated, but i think thats the DVD player acting up because its not on the list of compatibility with DVD+R/RW...but i'm unsure how i missed a step i followed the guide strictly and i tryed it about 5 times...where could i have messed up?

The only problem with the DVD-Video option is that the original ifo file knows how many vobs made up a set, and therefore if you remove streams or re-encode it so that instead of having say VTS_01_1 though to 4, you only have 1 to 3, then when Nero checks the files it flags this. I have never had a problem playing back a dvd that failed this check, although if you aren't sure about all the ins and outs of ripping dvds you may be happier making sure you pass the Nero check as it may also highlight another more serious problem.

If tm knows a quick way of ammending this flag I would be interested to know it.

@drmih. Doesn't Nero fix this automatically? I saved the log file last time I burned a DVD-Video and one entry has shown some information about changes in video_ts.ifo made by nero. I'm not sure on this one but Nero does change something if you use dvd-video and it detects a fixable "bug".

@chevman803: I meant that you should do the following with all ifos (but video_ts.ifo) you want to have on your dvd:

- Open the ifo with ifo edit
- click vob extras and choose to strip streams, strip vob-ids and both correct...checkboxes.
- Now decided to keep EVERYTHING and let ifoedit save it to a new directory.
- After ifoedit did its work copy those newly created files back to the directory where all the others files are saved in (overwrite those which are already there)

I know it sounds stupid since you already did this while you did the stripping but it help me to get around those warnings. It's something like a final fixup.

Another trick is to start a dvd-video project in nero and to add all files you want to burn. Now try to burn and nero will bring a warning. Start now with the first file (vob | ifo) and replace it with the original version. Try to burn now. If you sill get an error message try the same with the second file (vob | ifo) and so on. At some point nero will no longer complain and you will now where the problem lies.
