I was looking at doing some optimization on the xvid cvs code, but I haven't got lots of hours of time free. It would be nice if some profiling was done so we could see what needs work, so I could target my optimizations more specifically.

Has anyone done any profiling?

Jim,

for those question I'm sure www.xvid.org is the correct place, this is more the end-user support forum ;)

Well, you can turn timing on with defining #time or something similar, and yes, there is much profiling going on. But better ask the core developers themselves, maybe you have some other profiling methods which could be "better" than internal timing of the routines and algorithms.

It's been a while, but I believe you #define PROFILING to enable xvid's internal function time checks.

As for what needs optimising.. the mmx colorspace conversion routines could use some work, but there's not a whole lot of obvious slow stuff to work on. how good are you at tweaing mmx assembly?
