Pioneer A04 burner and generic media

I think I have heard on this forum that the Pionneer A04 burner does a better job than the A03, I'm wondering if this is true and if so why

Indeed I noticed that too.

The Princo I burned with an A04 have been better reeden by Standalone players then the one I burned with A03.

may be it simply has to do with the firmware?

1.80 firmware on A03 is said to make it a better writter (especially with cheap media).

I own a dvr104 and works just fine with princo at 1x...

I also own a 104, have had for about a month. Works great. Have burned 10-12, not a coaster yet.

I just got mine, and made my first DVD-R backup. It was a Ritek. What princo Discs are being used? Looking for media to try with my 104
