A few HARDWARE MPEG encoding cards are reviewed in this month's Computer Video Magazine (Vitec's DVD Cut Machine+, Canopus' MVR1000, and Snazzi's III AV.DV Gold).
the Snazzi is pretty cheap, and gets a positive review.
Nothing in the budget arena YET, to threaten the better Software decoders, but...
