View Full Version : Corrupt .ogm (my fault)

I used mode2cd to burn a ogm movie to CDR. Usually I have no problem with this, but I must have had a bad disc. The overburning did not go well and the end of the file is missing/corrupt. I used the dat2file util that came with mode2cd to extract the ogm file from the cd. As expected the end of the file is missing.
I don't really care for the missing part (just credits), but the missing part seems to make the XCD unplayable. However the file I extracted are also missing the end, but plays fine. :confused:
Could someone with more knowledge of these format explain why this is?
Thanks

that's an interesting problem. i don't see any reason for it to behave this way. let me think about it. you can also wait for the next release which will include a tool called xcd2file to replace dat2file, you could try that as well.
in the meantime. no solution. sorry.
but u know you should not overburn the cd to death ;)
cheers

it shouldn't matter if the file you got from the xcd is incomplete, just make a new XCD with the file you recovered, of course this is with ogm's only

@ivanova:
i'd appreciate if you could do help me a bit.
1. download debugview from http://systeminternals.com
2. run debugview
3. open the file from the cd with your favourite player (or the one that caused the problems).
4. wait till you decide it's not working
5. close the player (if it hasn't crashed)
send me the log from debugview.
thx

ps.
have u tried other players? worthy candidates are wmp6.4, wmp7, wmp8, powerdivx, zoomplayer and graphedit (except for wmpX you can get all of them from the download page of doom9.org)
pss.
it's NOT xcd yet. since there's no error correction. it's a plain standard mode 2 form 2 file. the next release will be true xcd, FLX compatible (see http://xcd.sf.net for explenation about the termilonogy)

Yeah, I tried in both zoomplayer and bsplayer and WMP that came with XP. Same results.
The file seems to play, but only the first 3 seconds.
anyway I attached the logs, any better way to send it?

@ivanova:
i've looked at the log, and except for strange access to the end of the file (i'll check into that later on), the filter seems to read it ok, till it closes normally (i'd say as if you closed the player normally) after few seconds. so i couldn't see an error.
can u pls describe in more details what happens since u open the file untill u decide it doesn't work? (i.e. does it seek too long before it starts playing?, what does it say the length of the clip is?, does it crash, or just stops 'normally'?, does it give an error message? etc).
thx again for your patiance

No it doesn't crash the player. The player takes a bit longer to seek than with a proper xcd (about 15 seconds) and then starts to play normally. The framesize and audio streams seems to be all there, so the header of the file seems to be read. But the movie is only 3 seconds long. After the 3 seconds I close the player normally.

ok. thx for the info. i don't know what else i can do atm, but if you'll be patient, i'll send you a new version of xcd2file, and you'll try to make some more tests.
or, if you're tired of this, you can send me the cd by snail mail ;), and i'll try to analyse it.
cheers
