I have Nero 5.5.7.8 and Nero 5.5.8.2 and I know how you said that 5.5.8.0 is the one you use. Do you think any of the 2 listed above would give the same results as 5.5.8.0? Thanks.

BTW, for your 104 burner, did you use a regular IDE cable or the UDMA 66 cable (the one with the blue connector)?

Version 5.5.8.0 was the first to have the DVD-Video template - I wouldn't recommend any version earlier that this. Later version require DVD-complient files before NERO will burn. 5.5.8.0 was a lot more relaxed in its restrictions on compliency.

Personally, I would stick with making COMPLIENT DVDs, since no telling what future players will or will not allow to play. It can sometimes be frustrating trying to find your non-compliency, but I think that it is worth the effort (and it gets easier to find with the more burns that you do).

When you say make COMPLIANT DVDS, would exactly do you mean? I used Maestro to author it and then reintroduced it into the original DVD structure (after only including the main movie, menu and 1 audio stream). Plese clarify. Thanks.

BTW, so you recommend using 5.5.9.0 instead of 5.5.8.0?

If you are using an authoring program, then you won't have any problems. My (our) problems arise when we modify the .IFO files of a ripped DVD to shorten a DVD-9 to a DVD-5 (by dumping the parts that we consider "fluff") without re-authoring.

Hi
I was one of those Nero 5.5.8.0 inconditional recommenders until something happened and every DVD i burned was incompatible, yes i don't know why but one day the problem started, first i was thinking it was the media but 5 different DVDs in a row is too bad so i changed my software to B'S RECORDER GOLD and everything is excellent, it's easier and faster than Nero and all my DVDs are standalone compatibles, give it a try!!!

I check the site but did not find any evaluation version.
Is there any demo of B's recorder Gold ?

I have tried every version of Nero since 5.5.8.0 and they all complain because of the changes made to the original IFO files. At least in as much as the way I like to reauthor and reintegrate into the original file structure. Are they "compliant"? Probably not 100% though I'd like to know where all the "compliance" information everyone is claiming to reference is coming from. Personally, I think people throw the word around too much claiming to understand the details of the "compliance" they are referring to.

FWIW, I have installed newer versions of Nero over old ones, uninstalled and re-installed different versions, and gone back to 5.5.8.0 and I have still never had a failed burn or an incompatible burn from it. Every DVD I've ever burned (direct 1:1, reauthored, reauthored and reintegrated) with Nero 5.5.8.0 with the
"DVD Video" option, has played flawlessly in every DVD player I've ever tried playing them on.

Nero 5.5.90 also doesn't like *.LAY files created by Maestro which didn't happen before. Need to burn DVD ROM (UDF/ISO) to allow the *.LAY file.

Is the *.LAY file necessary for the DVD to play in standard players?

If not than I can ditch it which leaves a tiny bit more room for content.

The LAY file is used when making an image in Maestro.

What are the pros and cons of making an image in Maestro and than burning it with Nero versus creating the VOB files and than burning it with Nero?

Thanks for any help.

Some people say that the final disc is more compatable with stand alone dvd players. But this I'am not to sure.
At the moment if I'am doing a disc the TRILIGHT way then I use Nero 5.5.8.0. If it is a dvd5 then I just make an image with DVD Decrypter, and burn it with Instant CD/DVD 6.4.
You just have to find the best mix of programes, they all seem to have their +'s and -'s like the dvd template in Instant DVD did not work for me so I have never used it again, but for image's it works great.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I just started learning the DVD-9 to DVD-5 "full copy" method that TRILIGHT advances.

I'm burning my second one as we speak, and, as with my last one, although I followed the directions to the "T", Nero is complaining about compliance. I'm using 5.5.9.17 (?) and it allows me to burn even though there's some potential non-compliance. My last one worked flawlessly in WinDVD4, so I burned it, and my Panasonic standalone took it no problem.

Thus, when I got the same error, with this disc (Say It Isn't So R1), I decided to burn it anyway. It should turn out fine (and I'll post if it doesn't).

Anyhow, I just thought I'd mention to anyone afraid to burn through the Nero error (something like "error found during file reallocation, DVD-Video files reallocation failed" and "DVD-Video files compliance ignored" when I say to burn anyway): give it a try, if you're confident that you did everything right, go ahead and try the burn --- it just might work like mine did.

P.S.: I searched the whole forum, but couldn't find any posts that directly referenced this topic other than this one. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the info, Jafco. Unless there is new information, there's nothing wrong with posting info to an old post so long as it's relevant. I never tried to skip past any errors, I just went back to 5.5.8.0. Actually, I think for a while, it would not even burn. Perhaps they changed something. At any rate, thanks for sharing the info. Let us know what else you find.

Well, thanks for your guide!

Anyhow, for what it's worth, my second one also worked, even with the error. Nero asks if you want to continue anyway, even if it might be unplayable. If you say yes, it burns.

I use 5.5.9.17 because I have a Sony DRU 500A, and 5.5.8.0 doesn't support the sony fully.

Thanks again.
