I've been using DVDSVCD to rip with internal routines and encode (CCE) for about 6 mos. Recently I reformatted and did a clean install of XP pro without changes to my original hardware setup. I have installed aspi 4.60 and my liteon 163 is set to dma mode 2. For some reason now I cannot rip my dvds to the HDD without initializing the dvd first with windvd. This happens with every dvd. Though this is a small issue, it's gets irritating having to intitialize first before ripping. I've tried installing aspi 4.71 and still no joy. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Hi flaamer,
try to use the ForceASPI drivers available via a link on the DVD2SVCD Homepage. I have re-installed my Win2k lately and tried to install the 4.71 Adaptec ASPI drivers as I thought they're the latest, so why install any others and as they also ran on my previous installation of Win2k without a problem.
But they didn't work properly - every app said they are not installed properly. And guess what, after I installed the ForceAPSI drivers all worked fine. So I uninstalled the ForceASPI drivers and installed the 4.71 drivers and now they worked too - weird, isn't it.
Hope this helps,
Gerti
