when I was converting the movie Amelie I have noticed a white border around some subtitles.
Looking at the files that DVD2SVCD generated I have noticed the in the subs directory some bmp files already have that border.
Is there anyaway to solve this problem?

Hi-
I had ripped the movie to DivX and was watching the movie and noticed the same thing. So, I OCR'd them into SSA format and added them to the movie when reencoding.
So, if you've never OCR'd the DVD subs before, here's your chance to learn. Use Sub Rip or Sub Resynch to do it. Then use Textsub to add them to the movie. It comes with the VobSub package and is usually added into the VDub-Nandub Plugins folder. Use that feature in DVD2SVCD which allows you to edit the .avs, and when the time comes add a variation of this:
LoadPlugin("Path\to\textsub.vdf")
TextSub("path\to\subtitlefile.ssa")
And don't forget to cancel out the use of the bit map subs. And open the edited .avs in VDub to check the position of the subs. Putting them as the last line might be best-they'll be in the black bars part. If you want them at the bottom of the video, then the Textsub line goes higher up in the .avs.
Edit: Or you can e-mail me and I'll be happy to send them to you (English subs, though-probably not what you want). Welcome to the forums.

I've done that and everything is ok. :)
I would like to know if this problem is just with this movie and if the author of DVD2SVCD knows about this since I didn't see any other topic about this.

Hi, I had the same problem when I tried to rip Traffic. Some letters had a border and I got a "|" sign after almost every line.
After that I also switched to textsub and I don't think I want to change back. The result is excellent.
I don't know if the borders occur with every movie...a friend of mine also had those problems so it doesn't seem like a coincidence.

It was the first time I've seen the problem, although Verbal says he saw it with Traffic. But they came on the DVD like that, so it's not a DVD2SVCD problem.

same problem in two different movies. alread sent the fiddler a bug report on the subject. hopefully it will be fixed in the next build.
perhaps the OCR option would be a nice alternative method to include in DVD2SVCD, as subs are a recurring source of problems. just my 2 cents.
take care :)

Are you using the default colors in dvd2svcd? Would it be possible for me to have a sample (a vob+ifo) where this error occurs?

Yes, I'm using the default colors. I've also tryed a white backgroung, black border and white leters, but then the background is not transperant .
As for the vob+ifo, I'm using a 56k modem so it's a bit complicated to send you the files (I will try to extract the smallest chapter and see what size it gets).
