Hey TRILIGHT, I've been doing this stuff for quite a while but no matter how many times I read this paragraph from that awesome guide you wrote I'm still not sure what you are suppose to keep and throw away as far as the IFO and VTS_01_0.VOB file is concerned. Are you saying you replace the files from the ripped original with the ones Maestro creates or keep the originals and throw out the ones Maestro creates? thanks dude

Now is the time for the real magic! The ability to incorporate your new files back into the original DVD structure so it will be just like the original with menus and all! The first thing we want to do, in this example, is rename our authored VOB files to VTS_02 instead of VTS_01. They are going to replace the VTS_02 files in the original. DO NOT copy over the authored IFO file! DO NOT copy over the VTS_01_0.VOB file! Remove all of the original VOB files (You MUST leave the IFO file and the VTS_02_0.VOB files!) and copy over the new ones in their place.

What I think he means, and I may be wrong, is because the main movie was in the vts_02.x.vob set, you must take the newly created vobs from Maestro (vts_01.x.vob, etc.) and rename them to vts_02_x.vob.

Keep the original vts_02_0.ifo and vts_02_0.vob files. So, in the end, you will have this:

Original -> video_ts.*
vts_01_0.vob (because it contains the menus)
The rest of the vts_01_x.vob's
vts_02_0.vob AND vts_02_0.ifo
Any other vob sets that you didn't alter (downsize)

New -> vts_02_1.vob and the rest of the newly authored vobs

Trilight, correct me if I'm wrong :)

ya, see I want to know if thats right, cause it makes sense to me that way. But lets say you have an hour extra that you want to transcode the size down too, then what, you import that new m2v file into maestro and author that seperately, then re name those vobs to match the original file structure? So you would do the maestro authoring step twice? So the Maestro authoring step in his guide is just to create new smaller vobs and nothing else? And those new vobs are the only new files you use and everything else you keep from the original rip?

Commander,

That's right. The Maestro authoring process is just to create a set of VOBs that can replace the originals. But you only have to do it once.

you mean if you have say 2 or more m2v files you've transcoded just bring them all into maestro and go ahead and author this project any way you want just to get the smaller vobs?

I'm not sure I follow. But assuming you mean you want to replace two sets of VOBs in the original -- you could use Maestro to create two VTSs and then rename those.

I've not been able to check posts over the past couple of days. Anyway, I think hoops10 and jdobbs have both done a fairly decent job explaining what this process is for.
