Would 7 pixels at the left of a film eat up space?

I have a dvd (Vanilla Sky) with a 7 pixel wide border on the left (oddly enough). Apparently with divx this eats a lot of size because the black is not a multiple of 16 (which I accidentally found out with this film after autocrop in Gordon Knot botched the cropping).

Now this 7 pixels is not viewable on the television (as stated in the FAQ) so there's no point in cropping unless it eats up bandwidth (although cropping is not hard, thank god for question 64 :D). So does it?
