View Full Version : metallica s&m
i try backup 'metallica s&m' on 2cd w/ac3
source: progressive ntsc 29,97 (NOT IVTC)
cd1: 71min / cd2: 78min / ac3: 448kbps
i try encode 1pass w/Xvid in resolution 512x384 and get comp.test cd1: 27% / cd2: 23%
that to do? my single idea - 29,97fps -> 14,985fps :scared:

Well, since you didn't post the avs it is a little hard to say exactly what to do, but the general hints in cases like this is:
try different de-interlacing methods, like fielddeinterlace from Decomb (with/without blend=false), GreedyHMA etc.
Try different resizingmethods, namely soft bicubic if you haven't tried it yet.
Add a noise filter
Lower resolution to 448x336 or 384x288
Force Film ~= IVTC
source is FULL ntsc 29,97, this NOT 23,976 w/IVTC... use IVTC for this material senselessly!

Hi-
You are making no sense at all. I'll chalk it up to your unfamiliarity with English. If it has a Progressive source, then it has been telecined to get to 29.97fps, and can be Force Filmed or IVTC'd to return it to its original 23.976fps. Think of Force Film as a very weak IVTC, but many sources need a full strength IVTC such as Decomb, GreedyHMA, or IVTC2.2.
If it is video originally created at 29.97fps, then it is not Progressive, but pure interlaced material, and must be deinterlaced as hakko504 explained. There is no such thing as Progressive 29.97fps (as far as I know). If there were, you just use DVD2AVI with no Field Operation, and you certainly don't need us to tell you what to do.
Maybe hakko504's Sticky (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23776) might be useful. Have you actually looked at the frames to determine what you have? Don't rely on DVD2AVI, because it can be misleading.

 believe me - 29,97 progressive, not interlaced, not telecined! can send the small part...
