Doing stuff?

Does anyone know if "doign stuff" while encoding or ripping affects the quality of the movie? I always do stuff while encoding, and sometimes when ripping.

One more thing, whenn I try to watch a newly burned svcd with my macintosh(burned it with my pc) the sound gets out of sync after a while, but this does not occur when I open the "movie file" on the CD with my PC.. Any ideas what might be messed up?

you can be sure that the quality is not affected. well, of course if your pc crashes during encoding...
