Hi, I'm now deep into making svcd's and I've been thinking: What is the best way to put the movie on as few cd's as possible. And doing this without loosing quality?

I've heard something about overburning, is that hard? is it a good idea?

Does all dvd players support 900 megs cd's?

Any ideas anyone?

Don't overburn - you might damage your writer. CD might have errors later on, or some will have difficulty reading it.

It's not hard. Not all CD-Writers support it.

I have 2 lite-on cdr's and both of them can burn 830megs of mpeg2 data on a 80 minute cd. I would only do that with a lite-on burner as i've not tested any others but some will not over burn at all and others like the Lite-on 24x10x32 or the 40x12x48 will overburn with 80 minute or 90 minute cdr's. Btw i have an apex5131 and it plays those over burned cd's everytime.

Ok, then I don't think overburning is for me.. (I always get so scared when people say it migth damage my hardware.. silly ..yes)

What about the 900 meg CD?, anyoned tried burning with it, when you get one. Is it just to burn like a regular 650 or 700?

I'm able to burn a 90minute cd to 99minutes using either one of my lite-on's. I myself only use 80 minute cd's as they are cheapest and i get good picture quality on 2 of them. Also only some cd burners will burn 90 minute cd's to 99 minutes.

Also i can put 830mb on a 80 minute cd of an mpeg2 file, using either of my lite-on drives.

How much MB of SVCD would be posible on a 90 min CD?? I have a LiteOn 40/12/48 CD writers, so that isn't an issue!!

So, if i had a MPEG 2 file of 900mb, i would be able to burn it on a 800mb 90 min CD-r then?

@dreassica Yes if you us mpeg 2 format you'll be able to burn 900 megs on a 90 minute cd. Do note that with your burner you will be able to over burn as well. Now you'll have to do the testing on how much and also test even if your dvd player can handle the over burn.
