View Full Version : avi2svcd no sound

Hi,

I've read the faq's and alot of posts, but I still don't get it, maybe I am too dumb. Perhaps somebody could help me in easy language:
I try to convert some Divx avis into svcd's. Problem is I usually end up with no sound or the sound and video don't match. The sound ripping is fine (resulting *.mpa file and the *.wav file is fine) but the transcoding of besweet doesn't work! The resulting *.mp2 file is corrupted (nothing to hear at all). I don't change any scripts, just use a guide for dvd2svcd, the log file doesn't display any error. Strange thing is, it happens just maybe on every second avi! Can somebody help, please?
thanks hotiger:confused:

If you read around so much as you claim, you would of known that ALL posts dealing with problems go in the basic section. I will move it this time but be warned as next time you will be striked.

Now thanks for that advice. I was looking where it says: you have to know exactly where to post any questions, but I couldn't find it. How about giving a little help instead of busting first time users?

Try using the latest Besweet 1.4 RC4 it should be able to handle even more audio types.

Chainsaw135 is a moderator, he moderates posts. Do not be angry just because he is moderating that is his job, ok.

Thanks I'll try your suggestions,

no, the logfile doesn't show any errors, as said it happens during the transcoding from wav to mp2. I am using 1.4, but maybe not RC4, I'll try that. Problem really is that it's not always happening.

Hi DSPGuru,

there is no sound in the mp2 file, nothing to be heard if I play it with Winamp, also there is no sound in the finished video, but I think that is pretty obvious.

Hi hotiger,

I would suggest, you do a complete re-install od the DVD2SVCD package as it seems there is something messed up - or post your "DVD2SVCD.ini" file - but I would rahter do a re-install.

Greetings,

I too have found no audio when converting DV to SVCD using D2S.

My captured DV framerate is reported by D2S as 25.001 so the conversion process informs me that it will change the frame rate to 25.000.
This results in a silent audio file being converted as per the log below:

If anyone needs the extracted wav file or conerted mp2 files, let me know and i will send them. For a trial I used a freshly captured DV clip about 10 secs long so the files aren't that big.

Any thoughts gang!

I think you found exactly why it is happening, cause my framerate was also converted from 25,007 to 25,000!
How do you deselect the switch for the conversion?

@hotiger

If you look at the two different command lines in the logs i attached you'll see that I simply removed the switch
-r 25000 25001

Best to copy the command line entry from the dvd2svcd log file. Choose start->run, paste into the open text box and delete the required switch. Once edited, click enter and besweet should transcode as before. You cna check the logfile which will overwrite the one created during dvd2svcd's conversion BUT as the framerate will not match the encoded video it is pointless completing the project.

I hope that dvd2svcd, dspguru and the moderators can shed some light on this.

Found the answer in the BeSweet FAQ. This must be one of the unsupported frame-rate conversion mentioned in the following quote:

9 Known issues in v1.4RC4 :
10 - not all FRC (frame-rate-conversion) values are supported. common FRCs are supported (NTSC2PAL / PAL2NTSC).

So its a bug confirmed elsewhere.

@DSPguru - is this on your 'to'do' list by any chance

Hi,

I just got the following message, I didn't try it yet, but I will for sure. Lets hope for the best. Thanks anyway to Sander van der Linden!

This is the message:

"Hi, I cannot post to the forum yet, so that is the reason for this
mail.
I had the same problem for a couple of days now and found a little
program that worked for me.

Since the framerate is closely to the desired framerate (for me it was
25.003 to 25 fps), I have just altered the framerate of the avifile to
25 fps.

After that I could convert the file (including the sound) without
problems.

The program I have used to change the framerate is 'avifrate' and it
can be downloaded from www.inmatrix.com

Could you please post this on the forum for the others ?

Thanks and good luck !

Regards,
Sander van der Linden"

I had this happen to, but I loaded up the .avi file in virtual dub, extracted the audio as a wave and then loaded that wave into besweet. that created the .mp2 without any problems. After that, you can remux it yourself in bbmpg or rename it to the file that is not working when running avi2svcd. That has always worked for me.

take BeSweet's commandline, and remove the "-g max" part, and run from command window.

Hi all,

it took me a while to figure out what command line I should use. I was trying with a dos window, but you don't have the slightest chance to enter such a long command line into that window. The much easier answer would have been, use the Besweet GUI commandline!!!
Using avifrate totally screwed up the synchronisation, so that doesn't work at all, btw the video I am trying to convert is "the grinch". Well finally I used Besweet GUI and replacing ota with azid I got a good mp2. Right now I am converting the video and if I am lucky in about 7 hours I get my long awaited svcd video. If I am extremely lucky it may show up in good sync!
Thanks anyway for everybody's help!
