Hi,
This post is based on my previous post titled "DV to DVD Breakthrough Techniques...".
I'm still talking to the Etymonix support guys and have these questions based on their replies.
Summary: Etymonix codec has a YUV 4:4:4 (broadcast quality option) for conversion. Etymonix recommends that if my souce is a NTSC DV which is in YUV 4:1:1, I should go for YUV 4:4:4 option for outstanding results. They also mentioned that YUV 4:4:4 to YUV 4:2:0
conversion (for DVD archiving) will result in some quality loss.
Now, my question to them and to the experts out here in this forum is how big is the quality loss? Is it negligible or is it huge?
Also, Etymonix has a option to have YUV 4:2:0. If I select this and feed the resulting AVI (YUV 4:2:0) to TMPGEnc for DVD prodcution quality, TMPGEnc doesn't do the conversion from YUV 4:4:4 to YUV 4:2:0. Right?. Instead it just converts the YUV 4:2:0 to MPEG-2 YUV 4:2:0 standard. Right?
I would appreciate any feedback on this ASAP.
Arky...Are you listening...:)
