small third cd

Hello hello :D Trying to do a rip of "Chasing Amy", NTSC. I'm sure this probably has to do with my min avg being checked, but I thought I'd post my results. I got a small 3rd cd, size 90mb. My system specs:

Athlon XP 1700+
Epox KT266a motherboard
512mb pc2100 crucial (1 stick)
120GB 7200 RPM Western Digital Special Ed. 8MB cache
12x Pioneer SCSI dvd drive

mkay. A brief overview of my settings..5 pass vbr, 2 audio tracks (directors commentary at 192, regular at 224) Lum Gain/Offset both 5, Sharpen .40, Bicubic Resize 0.00 0.60, Bitrate: max 2300 min 755 min avg 1600 max avg 2100. Total length is 1:57:13, so it SHOULD be able to fit at a 1600 min avg (1698 to be precise).

I'm using d2s 1.0.9 build 2, avisynth 2.0 (which actually states a version of 1.0 beta 7e, weird..) Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Take a look at ur settings on the "bitrate" tab. If u read the line saying "between 100 and 125 minutes use 2 CD's of 800" u can see that DVD2SVCD calculates the bitrate range in the far right greyed out box (taking into account ur audio bitrate settings).

Now enter 118 (1 hours and 58 minutes) instead of 125 and see what bitrate range u should use to achive a 2 CD end result. The lowest number is ur max. average bitrate if u want a 2 CD result.

Bsically u should not check "min avg." when using a 5-pass VBR.

Where do you get 118? when i used 114 (1 hour, 54 mins) the bitrate tab (used as you show above) told me 1698, so I see no reason why a min avg of 1600 should not work..I realize min avg is not really needed, but it should work, in any case...

sorry, logfile is long gone :( I redid the encoding last night, with min avg (1600) unchecked. It ended up on 2 cd's. From the new svcdinfo.txt:

- Avg. bitrate: 1686

GO in to dvd2svcd and re do the mux/cut try updating to build 3 and make sure your settings in the bitrate tab are set properly for the length of movie your using.
