hey guys,

i'm encoding crouching tiger hidden dragon on 3 cd's and the first try turned out very well quality wise... the only thing is that the third part is around 500mb and since i'm using 3 cd's anyway i might aswell use all of the available discspace...

i used these bitrates:

Max. bitrate: 2530
Avg. bitrate: 2230
Min. bitrate: 300
sounds: 192 kb/s

should i just raise my Avg. bitrate to 2530?

hmmm i just remembered the "out of disc space" icon in my taskbar.. i'm on my work right now so i can't check if that caused it but i got a feeling it did..

d'oh!

What kind of encoding did u do? CBR or VBR. If u want to fill out exactly 3x800MB cd's u should do a CBR encoding because then u can control the image size 100%.

Enter 2530 in both min. avg. and max. average bitrate and select a CBR encoding. Then u should be all set.

Please do check that ur DVD-player can handle that high bitrate @ http://www.vcdhelp.com

I assume you used TMPEGEnc as your encoder, which has a tendency to mess up the size of the last cd. If you did, you should switch to CCE for not only that, but because it's faster and results in better quality as well :)

@ultimate
with 4Pass VBR he has used CCE.

@Lev
I don't know how long this movie is, but with your settings i think about 118min, am I right?
If yes, you have to use a bitrate at about 2560 to fill your 3 CDs.
If you want to do this conversion, it would be better to do it witch CBR, because this way you save much time and you should not set any higher bitrate anyway, unless you want to ignore the limits completely, in this case you can do a conversion with e.g. avg 2560 and max 5000, this will give an exccellent movie, but only some player will handle it...
