I have managed to create an authored set of vobs of Ocean's 11 using Trilight's guide (a combo of CCE + Maestro). My question is simple, when I examine the original DVD it has 2 folders on it, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. But after authoring and following Trilight's guide, I only have a VIDEO_TS folder. What happened to the AUDIO_TS folder and do I need it or not? Thanks.

You need it, as you need VIDEO_TS ... some burning programs will create the directories for you. If it's not the case, simply create one in UPPERCASE, but you don't have to put anything in it. There is nothing to put in it if you create a DVD-Video. I don't know yet when the directory is "in use".

I'm not sure what the AUDIO_TS folder is all about. I have noticed however that some DVD's only have a VIDEO_TS folder. I always copy the blank audio folder on all my burns - I must try it without and see what happens.

Does anyone know why this blank folder is included?

Happy ripping

The AUDIO_TS folder is specifically for DVD-Audio authoring. It is not necessary for your DVD-Video compilations. In fact, there are DVD discs that do not include the folder at all. Although it is only for DVD-Audio authoring, some have said to always include it anyway. I can only assume this is because older players have compatibility issues if they don't see the folder there though I can't be sure.

Technically, to meet true DVD specifications, you MUST have both VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories (if you use NERO, you will notice that it creates both directories when you use the DVD-Video template).

That said, many commercial DVDs do NOT have the AUDIO_TS directory, so whether you have it or not seems to be irrelavent to most players (I'm curious if there is a DVD player out there that will not play a DVD because it is missing the AUDIO_TS directory).

Back in my beginning stages, I put the audio_ts folder on my dvds every time. Soon after that (give it 2 weeks maybe) i tried just putting the video_ts on the dvd and it worked fine. Since then, I've rarely put the audio_ts folder on the dvdr, even when it was in the original, and haven't had one problem yet. Just my 2 cents.

Since slk said that he's seen many dvds without the audio_ts on them, I'm going to assume that any player worth its weight will play dvds without an audio_ts directory, or else 100's of irate customers would be returning those non-audio_ts dvds left and right!
