What container do YOU use for archiving?

with the latest TDX 'rules' and also regardless, what's your preffered storage (= burn to CD) container AT THE MOMENT?

(this does NOT relate to xcd)

I voted ogg.

I don't use AVI because it's a hassle to have VBR video, multiple tracks of VBR audio, and multiple subtitle tracks in one file. I have heard that you can do these things in SVCD, but I'd rather not pay for an MPEG2 codec when it looks like MPEG4 codecs are going to be practically free.

The ogg container meets my needs right now, so that's what I use.

*edit* I have no experience with mpeg4ip, and VCD is terrible as far as the bitrate:quality ratio is concerned.

I use AVIs a lot, but I'd like to switch to Ogg, MCF, or XCD in the near future. And I'm doing more and more SVCDs, as they can be played on my standalone.

My preferred format atm is 2-CD AVI with a single AC3 sound track. I use DivX5 most of the time, but I am waiting for XviD's B-frames...

I make AVIs only!
I don't make
*(S)VCD because of bad quality + too light error protection/longer burning time
*ogg/ogm because it isn't compatible (I don't like the format anyway)
*mp4 also not compatible
*wmv/rm not compatible + closed standard

I download .rar archives. mostly 15MB a piece...:)

In those archives I mostly find that they hided some .avi file with some movie in it, amazing isn't it!?

So, avi it is!! But I like the rar's too.:)

I voted avi, but didn't really want to. It is still what I use at the moment. I have tried ogg but had probs muxing subs into the file which I couldn't seem to resolve but oveall I was happy with playback. I like the sound of mcf, so hopefully somthing good will come of this.
I also use vcd/svcd for stuff I capture off tv / video.

I'll probably switch to an mpeg4 container if standalones start to play this format.

I like to use ogg, but :
- i don't like the font in fullscreen in wmp, it isn't antia aliased
- in bsplayer where you can use anti aliased font I have trouble to show the subtitles (no problem if i use subtitle mixer, but then font isn't anti aliased)

so when will the core media player aka powerdivx 4 be ready ? i'm waiting. Soon ? :rolleyes:

if I were to make any copies (I know how to keep discs unscratched and I only loan to people who know it's their head if they scratch my beloved movies) I'd use VOBs.. burned the first self-created (or completely re-authored) DVD today and the player even eats DVD-RWs :D

I'm using MKV, because it's open source and more flexible, supporting more audio/video formats than OGM and AVI.:D

I don't know that there is any reason to list either the Real container or the WMV container as in almost all circumstances you will have a smaller file if you just transmux to MKV. Plus you're less likely to have seeking issues.

i make AVI for backup (and CVD for TV Series ) :D
