I'm in such a debate right now about which chip to buy. My current feeling is that AMD doesn't multitask as well and "feels" slower because of this. For example, say I am transcoding using Besweet and I'm creating a dvd2avi project file, if I opened virtualdub and tried to browse doom9 guide on the internet... you can tell things I do have a slower reaction. My old Pentium 2 seems to spread things out a little better and gives processor focus to what you are doing giving a faster feel to it. Now I'm not debating raw processing performance, but rather the "feel" of the processor. I'm specifically interested in those who have used both XP 2000+ and P4 2ghz or better based computers. So tell me what you think "feels" faster.
MultiTasking and process priority, is controlled by the OS not the cpu.

I have a P4 2.13 GHz Northwood (1.6A@133FSB) DDR box (845G but using a AGP card) and a Palomino 1.536G (i.e. XP 1800+, I hate PR rating) Dual DDR box (nforce). Both have 512MB ram and running linux kernel 2.4.18 with pre-empt and low latency patches. Palaomino beats P4 hands down, esp. when I do "make -j5".

wow, I was so close to getting a P4, now i might wait for an nforce2 board.

Be sure not to get Abit's solution. Their APIC implementation is not working, at least on their nforce chipset based NV7-133R with linux. Another very annoying thing about this board is the CPU temp reading from the in socket thermister is totally way off. Take for example, my current CPU temp reading is 46 degree celcius, but if read thru ACPI, the temp is only 31.9 degree celcius. Other than this 2 minor glitches, this board is rock stable, even comparable to the stability of their TX5 in the pentium era. Their nforce2 board might have those glitches fixed though.

i'm on the same board right now and everything seems well, i just need to add another memory chip and optimize timings, other than that it's a nice mobo so far. DD5.1 is awesome!
