Is it possible to encode with VBR when encoding for a DVD? I though i read somewhere that only DVD+RW could support VBR not DVD-R?

So far i've been doing things in CBR but am having trouble predicting file sizes with dvd2svcd.

If i Set all the cd tabs to 4600 the cd turns out to be about 5.6 gigs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Most DVD's are VBR, and which media you use doesn't determine or constrain that.
Maybe you heard something about DVD+RW supporting CAV, which is not DVD-Video compatible.

you'll want to use nothing but VBR..

I was able to take a 135 minute movie that was 5.5 G and reencode it down to under 4.1 Gig. Six people I should could not tell me the difference in blind tests..

I used: 0 Min / 39oo avg / 98oo Max
