im having big problems with divx5...im using 5.02 pro
1) i cannot play ac3 files with my software dvd player (IntervideoWinDVD)
2) every rip i do comes out with a filesize of ~42GB...yes thats gigs...something isnt compressing
3) compressability check...i do 5%, and if finishes, but i dont see any values of like 40% and second bitrate....where is the stats file?
4) i did the ac3>mp3 separate, and got the track i wanted into mp3, after guess-and-check...but it doesnt get put into the movie?
help would be appreciated, thank you

1) What program do you use to demux the ac3s?
2) I assume you're using GordianKnot to encode? Never had a problem with it before so I can only suggest you check that the DivX 5.0.2 codec shows up in the VirtualDub codec list. Try opening the avi in VirtualDub, then find the codec used by going to File > File Information.
3) The %-age is displayed at the bottom of the window in the Bits/(Pixel*Frame) section.
4) When you were adding the encoding job in GorgianKnot, did you select the MP3 file in the Audio 1 tab?
Don't know if this has been any help. :) If not, try adding a bit more info and someone is bound to be able to solve your problem.

#1) i select "demux all tracks" when i make the project....yet nothing comes out
#3) it doesnt show up....i get the first one, which i move slider to be like 25.2 for a 2 cd rip, but when i do the compressability check it says finished, yet nothing is changed and i dont see any output at all
#4) yes i did, and i didnt do any custom parameters
...and let me do those other things and il append it

1) Which program do you use to rip the DVD? Do you rip it all to one VOB or do you demux the audio there?
3) When you click on the encoder tab after the compression check has finished, is there an error message displayed in the log panel?
4) You need to select Just mux to get GKnot to add the audio.

I'd reinstall the whole GKnot package. It seems the Divx 5 codec is not installed properly (so the compress test returns nothing and the final file is uncompressed avi).
Playing back single ac3 files is a little tricky, in my opinion. I cannot play them with WMP or BSPlayer, both programs crash (but they play avi files with ac3 soundtrack with no problems. Makes sense? No!). Cyberlink PowerDVD 3 plays ac3 tracks, but it uses 100% cpu and the interface is getting so slow, it needs about 30 seconds until it reacts when I click "stop" or change the volume. But also, PowerDVD plays DVDs and avi files with AC3 without problems (and much less cpu usage). Also doesn't make sense. I just accept it as I have no need to play ac3 audio usually.
In your second post you say you don't get the ac3 files at all. Have you chosen "demux all tracks" on the "mpeg audio" tab, or the "Dolby Digital" tab? If you select both of these, you should get all possible audio tracks in ac3 format.

@got milk?:
1) smartripper, never had problems with it
2) i will paste in my log when i get home
3) i do, i select the mp3 file, then "just mux"....
@theReal
1) im gonna try that, il get a different divx pro5 codec and try..thats the concensus of everyone ive talked to: divx5 is screwed up somehow
2) im just gonna use besweet in the future to demux all ac3s...then just play em in winamp to find the right one, that seems to be the solution for me
3) i didnt mean to sound that way, yes i do get the ac3 files, my problem is they never got to mp3...and when i do that manually then add mp3 to the rip, its never added (no sound in movie)
already, thanks for your help guys =) im getting closer to solving this!

For deciding which is the right audio track, you don't need to play them. Smartripper creates an info file called something like vts_01_INFO.txt.
You should read it, it contains info like this:
