Where to begin this? I have loved and used Nandub to make great 1cd rips. I tested and tried DivX5 but was never happy with the quality.
I have went through the forums and took notes and have done alot testing, some of this testing was with videocapture to. Needless to say I have used some settings that work to make great videocaptures and used them for this DVD rip I used 700bitrate and 2pass encoding.
Here are the settings I used to make a great looking 1cd rip And I mean it when I say great quality! This was a 2hr movie. Gone In 60sec.

Bet no one ever expected this from me :p

Here are the settings...

700bitrate
use quarter pixel
use GMC
use bidirectional encoding
us MV file

"General Parameters"

Psychovisual Enhancement - Strong
Pre processing Source - Light

Max keyframe intervals - 300
Scene change threshold - 50%

"Advanced Parameters"

Max Quant - 12
Minium Quant - 2
RC avg period, frames - 2000
RC reaction period, frames - 10
Rate control down/up reaction - 20
Performance Quality - Slowest

Give it try and see how it works for you. You dont like these settings dont use them.

Here is the post about my settings for Nandub.

The XviD testing will be done today I hope. And I will post in the XviD forum the settings to use to make great quality 1cd rips.

Have a nice day! :D

I like Max Quant at either 8 or 10... Seems to give better quality most of the time.

Here is the link to the XviD settings I used to make a high quality 1cd rip using XviD-30062002-1. Take a look and hope people enjoy this. :D

Each codec does well IMHO. Just DivX5 and XviD seem to not have the cripness or sharpness as my Nandub rips do. The same goes for video capture... they still look damn good though and with these posts, people can now use whatever they want and make some sweet 1cd rips.

Have a nice day!

1) No QPel since you're not going from 704x480 to 352x240 or from 704x576 to 352x288

2) No GMC since it is still buggy. See here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27251

3) As SirDavidGuy said, Max Quantizer down to 8, since 12 makes more mosquito noise.

4) No Psycho stuff, it makes picture only worse

5) No preprocessing stuff, there is higher quality filters, that if you need filtering anyway

And don't follow any posting of yours "You dont like these settings dont use them.", it's ridiculous IMHO.

no offence at all, but you're a little behind with your profile ...
look at this post: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=26766
i've been using similar settings since the day divx5 was out, except psy tuning, preprocessing and QPel ...
furthermore keyframe interval depends on pal or ntsc (250 for pal) .. max quant should be lowered and averaging period set to around half of total movie frames ...

i've seen your posts about divx4 and 5 being much inferior many times in the past and couldn't understand how one could be so sure and proud of his ripping method ... (not that i'm mad at you)
it seems to me now, that you finally seriously tried out divx5 and that you have to admit it looks nice ... well , i'm happy for you :-)

sometimes i think, some divx3 "pros" out there won't accept divx5 being good cause it's much easier with divx5 than with divx3 to get nice results ... as a result they are no longer the "kings" of ripping

this post isn't about personal revenge or whatever ... no offence

@ speedamigo
You're perfectly right, this is exactly what I thought when I have read his post ;)

the thread starter may be right or wrong, but i'm grateful to ho him. the reason is, i (and i'm not the only one) BEGGED for something like this and only got mystic replies (mostly). he tried at least.
so instead of (besides of)criticizing, share your own suggested "profile".
be good

Hi galocza-

If you want it handed to you on a silver platter, then I might suggest you read Doom9's guide and the DivX.com guide Doom9 links to. If you want to learn for yourself, then go ahead and make mistakes and screw up a few times. That's how most of us have learned. Only then will you really understand how DivX 5.02 works. And the gold in this thread is D J Bobo's post. Although I do a few things slightly differently (lower Max Quants), those are some valuable tips.

And for most of us, there is no "profile". The exact settings we use depend on the source.

So using my settings and taking DJ Bobo's advice = very good 1cd rips :D

Have a nice day!

thanks for your advices. i know that there is no such thing that perfect profile. i just wanted something to start with. and yes, i've read doom9's guides, but i've also read this forum, a lot of discussions (opinions completely different), so i just wanted to clear things up a little bit in my little mind. that did not succeed, so i stick to the doom9 guide (maybe with the suggested lower max quantizer)...
be good,
stop flaming,
thank you all,
