The simple answer to your simple question is yes, however, I'm at a lose as to why you are asking the question in the first place ???

Am I right in thinking that you have a set of VOB files which you want to convert to an image file, prior to burning a DVD ??

Yes you are right to think just that.
Rather than create 2,3 images in svcd i would like to create 1 single image in SVCD to write to DVD media with the view to compile 2,3 movies on one DVD disc.
but i have no idea how.
