Hi,
I can's stand this anymore. Many sites I often watch live streams and video's from now only offer their video in real format.
Problem; Real player software is slow and it invades my privacy.
There should be a way to play real content without real player installed, right? Please help me out...
I don't care what Real Networks sais, but they can't just do this, even microsoft is more flexible with their media stuff.
Or is there some stripped down version of real player somewhere?

not true, microsoft refuses to support any of real's codecs in its players, whereas realone has support for wma and is getting support for wmv as well I've heard. And chill with the privacy deal, RealOne is clean of spyware. In fact I prefer RealOne to WMP. To answer the question though, there is a player that supports realvideo. Do a forum search on ultraplayer and you should find it.

If u get 'EO video' it can play real content, but you still need to have real player installed...i have never used EO video to actually watch stuff in...as its a full screen program...but its handy for converting real media to other formats. But if you really dont like the real player, give it a shot, you might like it.

eh.. the only process on my comp that runs on start of realone is realplay.exe. evntsvc is always on and it didnt display any signs of life or cpu cycles when I played stuff on realone.

It is always on because you let it :p If you try to end its process it will come back every time you reboot or start/stop realone. Btw, as I noticed it pops up some self advertising messages regulary. It looks like messenger's blue or NAV's little yellow boxes.

hmm.. damn. Well, since I finally got subs to work with oggmux (had to be the non extended format of srt.. silly me ^^; ) and XviD looked as good as Real 9 in my recent tests, I guess its time to switch back to that. I'll miss the 64 kbps audio though... oh well, I can encode in both I suppose

I was reading about this just like a while ago. But for the life of my I can't find it now. Do you have a website or link to it?
From what I remember, it is harmless, but it's the demonizing view on it i'm looking for.
