I have used imgtool to create an image but the file extension is .img and nero will not recognise it. Does anybody know how to change the extension from .img to .iso
I am running windows xp pro
Thanks:

cheesy2000,
Open Nero, and go to the directory of the file you want to change. double left click on the text (NOT the icon).
This will allow you to rename the file, including the file extension. All you want to do, is delete img and insert iso.
It's as easy yas that.

cheers for that homer but now, when I try to burn the image using nero 5590 It tells me that the wrong media is inserted (i.e. the dvd-r which i am trying to record to) and it requests cdr or cd/rw but the file is almost 4 gig and obviously needs to be on a dvd-r.
Any suggestions.

cheesy2000,
You've got me there at the moment.
I have Nero 5.5.9.0 but never burnt a image with this version (since upgrading from 5.5.8.2 I burn *.VOB's etc....). For image burning, I have alsways used Ulead Movie Factory (VERY EASY to use).
I'm currently re encoding a movie today (I'm sure you know how long these things take).
As soon as it's finished, I'll make an image, and see what Nero says.
Stay cool, I'll re post when I give it a try.

Im just getting to grips with rempeg2 cos my next project is deep blue sea and its 5 gig so i am going to have a go at compressing it. Thanks again.

cheesy2000,
Congratulations, welcome to the club
:D
Before you get stuck into ReMPEG2, make sure you use a Bit Rate calculator (there are quite a few about).
Also, before you start too encode, ALWAYS double check you settings (I have wasted hours encoding, before spotting I had checked the wrong output resolution (should be 720 X 576 for PAL) and other "minor" mistakes as well.
Also, be warned encoding can take a looooooong time. I'm currently doing Gosford Park, and it's taking 33hrs (Pentium P3 600).
I have to say though, results are quite good.
One small word of advise, if the bit rate calculator gives a figure of less than 75%, don't bother encoding, as pixilation starts to become noticable, and you'll spend a lot of time finding out.
Best to splut the movie onto 2 discs.

Whoooooooo, well done.
How about sharing some of the details on what values you used in ReMPEG for encoding "Deep Blue Sea" ?
I try (but don't always sucsede) in logging the variables (like scalefactor used, hours to encode etc....)

Homer.
Hey, I must be getting somewhere. Somebody asking ME for advice.
No worries Homer (and anybody else that may need to know).
I just followed the guide associated with the following link.
Rempeg2 Guide (http://www.dvd2dvdr.com/part_ii.htm)
Hope this helps.......

a) Do you have Nero version that supports DVD? Older versions do not and some 'cracks / Nero registration keys' are hardware specific, in other words, they will unlock Nero only for a specific burner.
b) I have overcome many of the burning problems by using Daemon Tools - this is a software (free) that will take almost any image file (including .img) and 'mount' it as a virtual DVD/CD drive on your machine. You can then use Nero or any other burning software to do a simple Disk Copy - you are actually copying a disk to another disk, sector for sector. Works well for me. The other nice thing about Daemon Tools is that once you have mounted the image as a drive, you can test it again with a DVD or VCD player just like you would when you insert a real DVD/CD into your drive before you burn - if that does not work then it is not going to work on any set top.
c) You can get better results (quality wise) re-encoding and re-muxing using TMPG or CCE than ReMPEG - they will take about the same time anyway. I use ReMPEG only when I am dropping the bit rate by 10% or so, otherwise I go to CCE. Little more work, but takes the same time (or less, once you have done a few, you can do it playing with your kids simultaneously:rolleyes: ).

I got my rips to work on xbox - create iso image with ifoedit and then burn with ulead movie factory. the xbox plays them very well
i did split and re-create all ifo files with ifo edit to end up with the vobs to image into iso function of ifoedit. that could be the key too, dont have dvd-r spare to really find out
fact is however tha xbox does work with el-cheapo dvd-r for $1.20 from allmediaoutlet
