Hi, first time post. Hope this is ok....
I have been using DVD2SVCD for about 1 year using fairly standard SVCD encoding settings, i.e. 4-pass CCE 2.5, 480x480, Bicubic 0.75, 48KHz/192kbps audio, default bitrates (modified to always use 800MB CDs), etc. I've found the results to be pretty darn good on standard TVs for probably 50+ movies. My only issue was that I did occassionally experience "stuttering" problems on my Apex 600 DVD player during playback.
However, I recently replaced the Apex with a Magnavox 450MD. Since then, I have successfully tested the Magnavox (using CBR) at bit rates of up to 6000 kbps with resolutions set at 720x480.
I am now wondering if I shouldn't switch to settings like a resolution of 720x480 and bitrates of something like 6000 kbps max, 5000 kbps max average, 2000 kbps minimum. I tried this using the 144min movie Black Hawk Down and it seemed to work fine. The only downside is more CDs, but the movie still fit on 4 800MB CDs - using my more normal settings it would have used 3.
Would anyone have any comments on why it would be a mistake to change over to settings similar to this? If not, any specific recommendations on high bitrate / high resolution settings within DVD2SVCD?
