View Full Version : Using ReMPEG2 for DVD-R with Win98SE

I'm using ReMPEG2 to reduce the file size of a move from 5GB to 4.3GB so that it fits on a single DVD-R. The main problem is that the resulting MOVIE.M2V file is one huge 4GB file which Win98SE wont support (2GB file size limitation). The VTS_01_x.VOB files are separated into smaller 1GB files to deal with this issue. I can live with the time it takes ReMPEG2 to process, and I'm not into upgrading my O.S. at the moment.

Does anyone have a process to use ReMPEG2 for DVD-Rs on a Win95/98/ME type O.S.?

If not, is there some other encoding option for Win98? I've already stripped all the extra stuff out and it's still too big for DVD-R.

as far as I am aware, you cannot do anything with your current o.s. you need to upgrade to xp or nt as they will let you use an ntfs file system. win98 is fat32 (only support for 2 gig files). Maybe svcd may be the way to go if you dont want to upgrade o.s.

I've figured out a work-around. If I split the movie up into smaller VOBs, then the ReMPEG2 output never gets above 2GBytes.

However, I've noticed some pretty obvious quality problems with ReMPEG2, so now I have a friend who does the CCE/Maestro method for me on Win2K. This looks very good.
