does it work to use smartripper instead of vstrip and internal routines? i have been having problems with both of them. vstrip does not always rip all the vobs in the ifo file. it recognizes them but when all done they are not all there. just half of them. with internal routines been getting a dvd2svcd.exe error after the first couple vobs have been ripped. any advice would help thanks.

As in Q&A stated, SmartRipper works, but most time it gives a problem and don't solve one. But there are some special cases where you have to use it. Just read the Q&A and try the method mentioned there.

SmartRipper is usually a source of audio troubles, and since vStrip is capable of ripping just about any DVD, there are only VERY few cases when SmartRipper is a good choice.

i did read the Q&A about smart ripper. i really dont know whats going on. just here recently i have been having a lot of problems with vstrip. not all the vobs are being ripped. it finds all of them and stops before all of them are ripped. hmm any help? i have used vstrip to rip about 150 dvds and now all the problems. thanks for any help.

Have you tried a reinstall of vstrip, windows, or both? Done any major changes to your computer or windows recently? For your results to change all of a sudden, something drastic like this is likely the culprit.

@Faceman101
If you use SmartRippper there is a chance that the audio and video with be out of sync.

use a version of smartripper 2.39 or before if ya have to. I believe (could be wrong) doom9 mentioned or someone did that smartripper is being completely rewritten. I don't think I've used it in about 3 or 4 months...100% internal routines now.

How about mentioning which DVD-titles ur having problems with. Then if any of us have the possiblity we could test them ourselves and post our findings.

I suspect that ur problems could be OS releated. I would try to uninstall dvd2svcd, reboot and install dvd2svcd again. It might just work. If it dosn't a fresh reinstallation of ur OS could also solve ur problem so I'd give that a try if the reinstallation of dvd2svcd dosn't work.

That's not such a bad idea, actually. A good idea to extend Q48 (I believe that's the one concerning SmartRipper) would be to compile a list of DVDs that members have had trouble ripping with SmartRipper on, and DVDs that SmartRipper was the ONLY solution. This could help prevent more topics concerning DVDs that have already been discussed.

Just a thought :)

the dvds i was backing up were rollerball, the lord of the rings (animated). dont know what happened. the lord of the rings would not work with any ripper. when it got to the fourth vob the rippers would freez or say "ripping done", even though there were 4 more vobs or so. thanks guys for the help
