Only $3.49 a disc!?!? Worth a shot if you ask me. Just added 4 to my order and I'll let you know how they work out.

What's the point? You still have to get up on change the disc, but now you can't write on one side. Plus, for those with multi disc DVD changers, double sided is actually worse. All this, and they are 3 times as expensive. Am I missing something?

Well it comes in a jewel case so you don't have to write anything on the disc itself...assuming you only have a single disc player.
Its also more convenient because now your storage cabinet can store twice as many movies as before...

I got two of these doublesided discs from Meritline. They are PRIMEDISC discs. They say "Designed in Germany" on them.
anyway they are dark purple on both sides and I tried only one of them so far and it works great. no problems reading it on my oritron. I checked the last chapter and a few points in between. no problems :)
I think I'll be getting more of these primedisc double sided disks. they're priced pretty good. not as cheap as the DVDpro but still a good buy

abbadon:
There is a very good reason for double sided disks. Most of the Mega-Changers (such as Sony DVP-CX860) can actually flip the disks for you!
From the product page:
It will even play double-sided DVD discs (soon to be on the market), by mechanically flipping the disc.
I assume "soon to be on the market" refers to double-sided, dual-layer disks, and not single-layer double-sided disks which has been on the market longer than I care to remember.
Even if you have a "non-flipping" DVD player, there can be a certain advantage - it's easier to keep track and store one disk than two. The disadvantage is obviously that it is impossible to label the disk.

how big would that be though to have it change the disc for you..it would have to be atleast the height of the disc and motor's. Im not flaking double sided media for i like them, im flaking the changer that flip's them for you vs. just having dual lens

If you buy these in 10packs, you get them at $3 a piece. which is better than meritline. I saw them at RIMA.COM
has anyone else tried these? I've only tried one of them so far. It seems to work fine. I'm not sure how good Primedisc is though.
A friend's Apex had trouble reading it, but I think his drive is flaky.

I tried it on my apex 1500 and it works great. I will also be buying these in the future. Saves space and mismanagement

I'm guessing that the players may just have a laser on multiple levels so the disc doesn't physically flip over, just a reader moves on the lower side of the disc. If not, that player would have to be at least 6 inches taller just to accomodate the disc width.

Not anymore. I have an order of these 'hub labels', and I love em. They sit on the hub of a cd-r/dvd-r, the bit of clear plastic in the center of the disc. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the dvd player clamps down on the hub before it spins up. If it actually clamps down on the label it will helps to prevent wobbling. It is removable, so it's great for DVD-RW's that may be recorded over. And, it allows you to fix the label if you screw it up, like I do all the time.
Check it out here. I am not a shareholder. :)

I have the Sony 860 DVD player. It's a 300+1 player with 'flip' capability. The player isn't really that big. The disks sit VERY close to each other in the carousel. The 'flipping' is acheived by rotating the carosuel 1/2 a turn and sending the disk into the center mounted drive backwards. Ingenious actually.
But think of it. 2 movies per disk 2 sides per disk that's 4 movies per disk times 300. That's a 1200 movie changer!!!

How do you get 4 DVD movies on to 1 disc? I can fit 2 movies on a 9.4 GB disc, one on each side. 4 sounds a bit extreme unless you transcode at a real low rate.

I never would put 2 movies on a disk, but I've heard a lot of people do it.
