hi all,

at 1st i would like to say thanx to all the people who made
dvd2svcd possible and helping people to get the most out of it.

this brings me to my couple of questions:
using dvd2svcd to encode only pal (reg2-germany) dvd's,
i'm really undecided about the adv.setting in cce 2.50,
because no visual diff. is noticable to me

1. linear quanizer scale
the manual says no for mpeg2, some in the forum say yes/no.
so what is the technical background ? (viewing vob's from
diff. dvd's shows yes/no, too ?!)

2. zigzag scanning order
pal should allways be interlaced (??), so from what i understand in the cce manual, i think i can uncheck it ?

3. progressivframes
same as 2.

4. intra dc (d?/pr!)ecision
reading the manual about this, i believe for svcd 8 bit should be enough for <= 2600kb/sec, right ?

i'm rather new to this conversion thing and haveing all those diff. infos it's a pain to come to a
conclusion how to encode.

please help me to see things clearer.
thanx
g.

I always set my intra dc to 8 like you do and uncheck linear quantizer scale.

i set my dc to 8 as well and depending on the movie i might keep the linear quantizer checked or unchecked. Also i would recommend downloading "bitrate viewer" also in using that tool dont ever select the first vob files as it will sometimes give you a false reading on the whole movie, so always select the 2nd or 3rd ect... hope this helps.

ok, i take the values shown by bitrateviewer for encoding.

many thanx,
