View Full Version : Second Audio Track

hitch
11th July 2002, 15:04
Hi all, I've searched on the site and read all the FAQs and guides, but there is no answer to my problem.

I've ripped a multi-audio DVD with DVD2SVCD and checked the Audio 2 Priority tab, but the resulting BBmuxed MPEG files only have 1 track as far as I can determine.

Looking at the log file below I can't see where the second track is extracted so I'm lead to believe it wasn't. I also checked the DVD2SVD.ini file and it seems to have options included for the 2nd audio tracked so I'm not sure what happened.

If anyone can help me diagnose, I would appreciate. Here is the log and .ini file. Thanks in advance.

Hi hitch,

you also have to choose a language from the pulldown next to it. The "Audio 1 Priority 2" is only used if the language specified for the "Audio 1 Priority 1" isn't found on the DVD - it has nothing to do with the second audio track.

Hope this helps,
Gerti

Gerti,

thanks for replying. I'm not sure I followed you. I don't want the second language under Audio 1, I am having a problem that even with Audio 2 selected (English) it does not get encoded (or even ripped apparently).

Would selecting a backup (Audio 1 Priority 2) language such as Spanish make a difference to how the program encodes the Second Audio track?
--------------------
I looked closer at the .d2s recovery file and it's confusing since it shows Audio 2 extraction step but obviously doesn't save it as AC3 file. Here it is if it helps someone diagnose.

Is it possible that you have selected english for Audio1 AND audio2?

hitch
11th July 2002, 19:41
labersack:

That's exactly right. The second english track is an overlay of director's comments. Do you think DVD2SVCd is having troubel with both tracks being english?

Labersack
11th July 2002, 19:54
Yes, in this case it thinks you selected the same track and it encodes it only onces.
To select a second audio track of the same language you have to check it by hand in the conversion-tab, at the bottom of this box are all available tracks listed, just check the two you need and hit go.

hitch
11th July 2002, 20:01
Labersack:

Thanks for explanation. But I could swear did check it manually in the conversion dilog box. I also checked the 2nd audio box under audio tab.

To confirm, I will redo a chapter again and see if maybe I restarted DVD2SVCD or something and forgot to select both tracks in the conversion tab. That's all I can imagine.

The reason I'm doubting this is so, is because in the .d2s recovery file for DVD2SVCD it shows that the program tried to extract the 2nd audio file, but the .ac3 extension is missing and thus DVD2SVCd will ignore that from then. I'll post it later when I get a chance.

I had a similar thing happen a while back ripping a DVD with just 1 audio track (in fact first time I used Buil 3!) and I had to manually extract the AC3 track and encode to MP2. Then I restarted DVD2SVCd from muxing stage and it worked. I haven't tried this approach yet for this DVD as I want to get to the root source of this particular problem so I don't repeat it in the future.

One other thought that occured to me is that for both the cases I used vstrip, but I haven't heard of any problems like this previously.

ramutan
11th July 2002, 20:32
You may want to use Vstrip if internal routines fails, I haven't used Vstrip yet and most of the people recomend to use internal routines and only Vstrip in hard situations or when you got no other choice.
you doing the right thing by testing one chapter and selecting the stream you want, why don't you try Internal routines for one chapter as well?
:D

UltimateDBZ
11th July 2002, 21:54
You should really ONLY use vStrip if you have to, as Internal Routines will give you the most compatibility if for some reason IRs don't work. If vStrip even fails though, nothing will work, and for the sake of all that is good, don't use SmartRipper with DVD2SVCD ;)

hitch
13th July 2002, 04:15
Well it worked and the file says it's encoded with 2 audio streams.

However when I run it through VCDEasy and load the .bin into Daemon tools and play with Win DVD, the second audio stream is the default and I can't switch between them.

short of burnign the file and checknig whether it plays fine on the standalone, is there a way to switch between the audio streams in some other software player?

Thanks in advance.

Amit
24th August 2002, 04:26
I'm having the same problem. I used the IR's to rip a sample chapter with Audio 1 as English 224 downsample to 44.1 Khz and the 2nd Audio track as "Director's Commentory" also in enlish but as 128 downsample to 44.1 Khz. When the operation was over there was no audio on the 2nd track. When I looked up in the folder ( i choose not to delete intermediate files), I didn't see any "Extracted_audio_2.ac3". Here's the .D2S file :

A workaround could be to rip the DVD with SmartRipper to your disk. Select im SmartRipper 'StreamProcessing' and rip only the two audio streams you need. But map one of them to another language, e.g. spanish. After ripping done you can rerip the VOBs on your HDD with DVD2SVCD internal routines again and select your second language (in this case spanish). I never tried this, but it should work. Please post if you have success with it.

The second language is none other but ENGLISH here as I want to record the Director's Commentory as the 2nd track along with the movie. I will try you suggestion and will post my reply when I am done.

Thanks,
-Amit

I understand that both tracks are english, but in this case you may get some problems. So if you map the second track to another language, DVD2SVCD 'thinks' it's another language and you can select each audio stream seperatly. Maybe this works, just give it a try.

Internal Routines worked for me and solved the problem. I have since figured out how to switch the different audio in WinDVD (old version had bad drivers). Should not need extra effort to map, as DVD2SVCD has no problem with both streams being English in most cases.

@amit: Look closely at your D2S recovery log and you'll see

DVDAudioFileName0=G:\The sweetest thing\Extracted_audio_1.ac3
MP2FileName0=G:\The sweetest thing\Encoded_audio_1.mp2
DVDAudioFileName1=G:\The sweetest thing\Extracted_audio_2<===
MP2FileName1=G:\The sweetest thing\Encoded_audio_2.mp2

The .ac3 extension is missing, so it looks like the audio is not exctracted. Make sure the Audio stream is selected in the Coversion dialog and also select Audio 2 in the Audio dialog.

It would help to see the DVD2SVCD log, so please post.

@HITCH : I did see the D2S log before posting and noticed the point you mentioned. And, I also selected Audio2 as English and also in conversion tab I selected 2 audio too. So, does that mean that D2S has some bug? Can you also try and confirm this thing?

I will also try again and will post my result (success/failure) here.

Thanks
-Amit

I've done many encodes since then and it works for me.

Try uninstallnig and reinstalling DVD2SVCD bundle.
