View Full Version : "Create IFOS" button problem

In splitting a dvd I often use the "chapter" method with SmartRip, ripping half the chapters to one file and then the other half to another file. The problem I sometimes have seems to happen in the second half with the "CREATE IFO'S" button at the bottom of the screen.
When the main movie is not in VTS_01, and so the second half files read VTS_03_3.VOB, VTS_03_4.VOB etc
I have tried to simply rename all the files VTS_01_1.VOB iin order and then use the CREATE IFOS button. The files process OK, new VTS_IFO and VTS_01.IFO's are created . I DO close IFOEDIT and then reopen, and DO use GET VTS Sectors.
The movie then plays fine in Power DVD (control O- read hard disc file.) I burn a disc.
But when I try to play it on a settop player--once the chapters start --all I get is a second or two of each chapter --the movie cycles through the chapters --and in about 10 seconds is over.
Has anyone else had this problem? Am I missing something?

Hi
I have never tried that method, saying that I have never been able to split a DVD9 to 2 DVD-R's, how about ripping the entire movie to one folder then using IFOEdit to split into two seprate folders, then add the missing VTS_xx.x into each if the seprate folders.
Let me know if you get it to work, would help me loads.
Hope this helps.

Mancubas,
Hello. The method you describe is what I used to split DVD-9 into 2 DVD-5's. It took me many retrys... about 20 DVD+RW burns and horus of frustration but FINALLY it worked.... The major problems I had were missing files I forgot to copy... not exiting IfoEdit and then going back in to create the new IFO's... and other "little details" that drove me nutz.... but success is Sweet! And it works!

try ripping the film via SmartRipper to HD. - Strip if needed via Ifoedit - then 'split to 2 DVD's' via Ifoedit. This will write 'The Film' vobs and update the Ifo files. Then there is usually enough room to copy over the extras as well. Run through Get VTS sectors & Hey Presto - but don't take my word for it - look at http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/copy.html
Happy Ripping

pjn228,
I have used your method a couple of times to split a DVD9 to 2 DVD-R.
One thing I do, when copying the VOBs, in Smartripper, you can choose to rename the VOBs so if the originals are not "VOB1" it doesn't matter. This is using "Movie Mode" just "uncheck" the 2nd half of the chapters (Smartripper shows you timeline details so it's pretty easy to split at the halfway point) Dont' forget, when doing the 2nd disc, you must "uncheck" the first half of the movie.
Also, when creating your new set of IFOs, I always place them in a new seperate directory. (temporarily)
Having created them, I delete ANY IFO refeerences in the original directory, (basically, just leave the VOB files) then, move your'e new set back to the original directory, get VTS sectors, all done.
Repeat the same for the 2nd half of the movie. No problems.
Basically, you just treat the 2 halves of the movie as 2 seperate rips.
The above procedure was used with the following software versions:-
Smartripper 2.41
Ifoedit 0.91
It is for the full movie ONLY. No menus, No extras, just the plain old movie.
