@Dark-Cracker,

I just want to ask about your generic XviD profile
for 1-CD and 2-CD which you use in your AutoDub.

How do you get those setting ? by your experience ?
or suggestion from someone in the forum or ?

Thank you.

hi,

cool a thread with my name :) :)
for the Xvid profil i have read a lot of explanation in the Xvid forum on the "Alt CC options explained" by OUTPinged, and "Hardcoding alt CC settings" by Acaila i have make a lot of test for findind the best setting with the information i have read (thank u to all the users who have answer in these 2 thread) and i think the my generic profil are very good for the Xvid :)

1Cd profil (2pass) :
--------------------
Min I : 2
Max I : 3
Min P : 2
Max P : 12

Search : 6
Quant : H263

HintME

Hight bit : 0
Low bit : 10
delay : 300

Payback Bias

Agression : Medium
Hight D : 150
Low D : 75

Auto Min Qual
Strenght : 50

Bonus bias

2Cd profil (2pass) :
--------------------
Min I : 2
Max I : 6
Min P : 2
Max P : 18

Search : 5
Quant : MPEG

HintME

Boost Keyframe : 10

Hight bit : 10
Low bit : 25
delay : 300

Payback Bias

Agression : Medium
Hight D : 200
Low D : 100

Auto Min Qual
Strenght : 50

Bonus bias

Why have u post this thread ? u don't thrust my profils ? have u some problems with these settings ? or it was only for your knowledge :) ?

Bye

I'd recommand modulated quantization type on the 1 cd profile, as it results in a sharper overall impression :) (The penalty in bytes is really unimportant and you gain more than you loose).

Also aggression set to low gives me usually better results on 1CD encodings.

Just my 2 cents,

regards,
Koepi

hi darkcracker!

why is the max quant for i-frames in the 1CD-profile lower than in the 2CD-profile?

Koepi
11th July 2002, 16:27
It makes sense to restrict the IFrames more in a 1CD profile, because the following frames can gain quality from it - it's a matter of taste actually (I set it to max. 4 or 5 in my tests for example - the big quantization of the following pframes is too visible for me. Also the curve treatment compensates too fast for this, the quantization goes to high levels directly after such an IFrame, just to "fall back" to normal values anywhere between 5-15 frames after that)

Koepi

@Koepi

u are right for the 1cd 2pass mode, use (1st pass H263 + second pass in modulated) and u can use too the luminance masking too.

@kilg0r3
for the I frame restriction, it for a better result for the next deltra frame, my english is too bat to give u some informations, just read the "Koepi Xvid explanation guide" and u will understand.

EDIT:...oups koepi have answer while i witting this msg :)

@koepi again :)
my 1cd profil is used for 1pass(cbr) and 2pass(both) mode it for that i have some very agressive value (of course very usefull for 1pass mode)
i have make some test and in 1pass mode the final size was often oversized with a low agression.(it for that i use a meduim)

u have much experience than me in the Xvid settings do u think i must separate my generic profil for 1pass mode and 2pass (both) mode ? with a lower qantization for pframe and using 5-15 for the hight bit ?

@all
if u have and idear to improve my generic profile, post the values (but keep in mind these values must be generic)

Thank u :) :) :) bye

Ps: koepi can i use a part of you guide to explain the setting in autodub for the Xvid and Divx3 codec ?

Koepi

Hi,

well, I think the different encode modes need different profiles :-/

For 1pass CBR it shouldn't have any effect? I have to look into the sources for that again :)

But for 2pass 1CD I really prefer low over medium/high aggression. (And sometimes it really depends on the movie or the quality you want to achieve - for _my_ taste low works greatest, but other people have other preferences.)

Ah, and I totally forgot about your last PM, was too busy :-( Sure, include it if you want to! :)

Best regards,
Koepi

Hi all!

My "generic" settings for XviD 2 pass,
set only in "2pass 2nd pass Int."
dialogue and encoded through Vidomi is
next:
All default but:
Global Tab - 6 (Ultra High), MPEG, 250/5, Lumi enabled
Quantiz. Tab - 2,6,2,12
Alt. Curve Tab - Low, 100, 100, strenght = 25

This goes for 1CD encodes and is preffered after
different testings on a clip (52 sec, 5Mb final size).

Xvid is Koepi`s latest.

P.S. I set Qantization to 2,3,2,6 in one of my tests but
was not so happy with result. It showed few more macroblocks
than above settings. Why could it be so or maybe I`ve done too
many tests and mixed up something?

And another observation. Do I really have to make different
settings for 1 and 2 CD encodes? If I encode movie to 2 CD`s
instead of 1, I`ll get much higher bitrate and picture will
be fantastic (let`s say it`s a 100 min movie). What do I get
with different settings then? More quality? I doubt.

@ookzDVD
thank u :)

@Koke

>Qantization to 2,3,2,6 in one of my tests but
>was not so happy with result

Low bit and Hight bit, and the delay are some very important velue if u use some low quant, i suppose it for that u have a crap result.

>Do I really have to make different
>settings for 1 and 2 CD encodes?

u are not forced to use some differents settings for 1CD or 2CD, u can even keep the default settings for the codec, but Xvid it better than Divx4/5 because he use the curve compression it for that some tweaking value can improve the result of the final file.

>If I encode movie to 2 CD`s instead of 1, I`ll get much higher
>bitrate and picture will be fantastic (let`s say it`s a 100 min
>movie). What do I get with different settings then? More quality?
>I doubt.

lol the situation it not so easy a big value for the bitrate can create an overuse (i hope this word it correct in english) of bits and a saturation of the bitrate.u must just find a right way between settings and desired finalsize.

Dear Dark-Cracker and all,

Although I usually do 2 cd rips, I tried a 1 CD rip with only a little modification of your settings, and the result was really impressing though the movie I encoded was a long and challenging one imo (Blues Brothers, 2:27 hr. / almost no macroblocks even in the famous chuch/dancing scenes, etc.)

Resolution: 448x240 (since it is a 2:27hr 1CD rip )
Resize: soft bicubic

(Also, I used Vorbis 1.0 with BeSweet, which I guess is really superb in quality)

Anyway, my settings for Xvid (30062002-Koepi's) 2 pass VBR were:

1st pass:
Motion: 6.Ultra High
Quant: H.263
No lumi masking
Hinted Me
End credits: Quant 20

2nd pass:
-Global
Motion: 6.Ultra High
Quant: H.263
Lumi masking enabled

-Quantization
Min/Max I frame: 2-3
Min/Max P frame: 2-6

-Two Pass
Compression
High: 10
Low: 10
Payback delay: 300
Bias
Hinted Me

-Alt Curve
Agression: Low
High: 150
Low: 75
Strength: 50
bonus bias enabled

-credits:
Quant: 20

Result: no oversize and almost no visible macroblocks - watched on TV :)

Thanks for sharing your generic profiles and best regards...
iago

It makes sense, but what would you do with a 3CD movie? Or a 50 min
movie?

Dark-Cracker
12th July 2002, 16:40
3Cd rip are generaly make because u keep the original .ac3 file. and for a 50 min u can use an hight bitrate to obtain a 650Mb but u waste the bitrate, the better solution is to use an hight bitrate for the audio stream and use 2 stream, but there are not a lot of movie around 50 min (some animes perhaps).

OK, Dark-Cracker, you sort of convinced me. I try your settings
and see if thats OK. Thanks and bye!

@iago & koke
no problem to share my Autodub's generic profil because most of the value have been explained and found in the doom9 forum , perhaps if u are happy by the Xvid profil and u use ogm file u can try my tool "Autodub XP beta v1.5" :D :D :D (a make publicity for my tool, i hope u will not be furious).

Keep on good work DCracker, but, for now, I`ll stick to simple solutions (Vidomi). After many experiments with SBC, Gordian Knot,
Avisynth, vfapi etc. I lost my nerves a little. And my advice to
you is to try to make it all in one proggy (at least one installation routine for all proggies).

Best luck!

@Dark-Cracker,

I just check the latest AutoDub 1.5,
and I've noticed that you already change the XviD profile ;)

Thank you.

Hi Dark-Cracker and everyone else.

I feel a little uneasy posting this, but there seems to be a basic error in the suggested settings in this post. The fact that no one has seemed to spot this is either that it is unimportant or i am stupid and have been making a basic error for months (even if not i'm still a bit stupid sometimes!!!)

See this:
Hight bit : 0
Low bit : 10
delay : 300

Payback Bias

Agression : Medium
Hight D : 150
Low D : 75

The first set of figures relate to cc settings, the second relate to alt cc settings. But i always thought that if you tick the alt cc box then the 'regular' cc settings are superceded and no longer used?

I'm not trying to be a smart arse so don't shoot me down, i am just very concerned that all the tv caps i have been doing, although good, may have been better as i have neglected to take notice of this. I rarely post, but read this forum daily, and have re-read the alt cc threads from when it was first implemented.

Thanks in advance.

Acaila

You are correct, the normal CC won't be used when you use the Alt. CC.

lol no i was just in hollydays :)

@droolian01
yes u are right , :) but these generical profils are an extract of my tool (Autodub v1.5) and my tool there have a checkbox for using or not the alt cc , and enable or disable some textbox. simply download it and u will understand :) :) :)
