Hey All,

I'm trying to do my first divx ever here. I downloaded/installed GKNOT and followed the divx 3 encoding guide of doom9.

Everything seemed to go well, i got a 300meg ac3 file and so on..
But when I came back here, it crashed cause it ran out of diskspace.

Reason out of diskspace??

Virtualdub was still creating an avi file which was already over 8 gig? Encoding took +16 hours on the first pass, which isn't normal aswell?

Any suggestions / help are appreciated.

do you have the divx3.11 codec installed? it's quite impossible for a divx3 file to get so large.. but if divx3 is not installed the movie will be written to your HD in uncompressed format which of course will be huge..

Well since I installed whole GkNOt package I suppose divx 3 is installed by default??

Hello !

GordianKnot is a GUI for several softwares, basically .

You have to install any codec you want to use with it separately .

This goes for the DivX 3 codec, too .
(btw, get the 3.22 one)

Then it wont use RGB as output anymore, and your files will get nice and small :-)

did you install the full 0.21 or 0.26?
btw, get the 3.22 onehell no. nandub only works with divx3.11alpha

Did you check your video codec list? Control Panel...Multimedia (or Sounds and Multimedia)...devices...Video compression codecs.

What should I see in that ?

I have the DivX 3.22 codec and I use GordianKnot and it uses NanDub and I have just today encoded another movie with it .

Maybe we are talking about different versions of DivX 3.2 ?

Your symptoms indicate one of two possibilities:

1) "no codec installed"
2) "codec not being used."

This is because you ended up with 8GB of output, as you've been told already.

You can confirm if its the former by seeing if the video codecs are installed in your PC. If Gknot is installed properly, you should see:

a) DivX ;-) MPEG-4 Video Codec (Fast-Motion)
b) DivX ;-) MPEG-4 Video Codec (Low-Motion)
c) DivX 5.0 Codec

"DivX ;-)" is DivX3

Indeed i check and divx codec was not properly installation, reinstallation fixed it.

Thanks to all

you are lucky then.

do you know what the difference is between 3.11alpha and 3.22 ?
well, i do and doom9 does as well. if you did you probably would not recommend to use 3.22 with nandub...

so everybody read my lips (or the nandub manual, or...):
use divx3.11 alpha and nothing else!

i guess this just has to be said once in a while. ;)

Hello !

I happen to know what the difference is .
I think so, anyway .

Intelligent keyframe palcement at scene start .

At least that is the case when I scroll through my DivX movies frame by frame .

And no, I havent read the NanDub manual .

So I guess I am an unenlightened lucky bastard .

that's correct, but it's not as intelligent as you might think.

nandub has it's own, very good scd (scene change detection) and it works with vanilla 3.11

once again: if you are encoding divx3 with nandub (and that's the only way to get good quality besides using some very good mm4 tools like fair use) you need 3.11 alpha and nothing else.

Hello !

All said, I guess .

Anyway, I wanted to use this surprising possibility
that your presence presents to thank you for your
work on GKnot .
I have never made better DVD encodings .
