[** Problem Description **]

When I burn on the system described below, the DVD's turn out only semi-readable.
Meaning, some files (for example, VTS_03_1.VOB) are unreadable to any set top player or
DVD-ROM drive. The DVD-R drive itself can read the disc perfectly.
I tried making a clean Windows 98 Installation instead, and burned then, which worked
perfectly - readable in any player/dvd-rom drive (Same image file, same burning program, same brand of media). so I reinstalled
Windows XP, reinstalled all my software (as described below) and again, burning won't work.
Any burning program reports 100% successfully completed, yet the files in question (always
the same files) are unreadable.
I even *replaced* my burner for a new one, but problem is still here.
Known facts:
A) Burner is OK
B) Media is OK
So what's causing the problem? :(

I have to disagree with you wholeheartedly, Sarah. The 9x code is flawed in more ways than one. I have the 104 drive myself on XP and have never had a problem.

Hello, maybe the problem is in the dvd discs that you use.
Did you already tried anyother dvd brand?
I have an Pioneer 104 and i use Nero dvd burner and all dvds i birned worked ok ( try only the brnds recomended by Pioneer ).
I tried dvd Infiniti and they work in perfection. ( But i only burn it at 1 time for now, not tried 2 times yet )
Best regards.

Windows ME is the most buggy, worthless OS Microsoft has released. Way less stable than even 98.

I have to disagree and strongly... For me WinME was the saviour of the day :) I had endless problems with 98 even all available bug fixes installed. One day I just had enough and installed ME. Now I can use more than 2 programs simultaneously without worries and if the max uptime with 98 was 2 days - well now it is more like 2 weeks. On the other hand on my laptop I had to go back to Win98. Win2000 and ME were nightmares on that... Friend of me was able to use ME for one day and had to reboot 10 times, went for XP and everything is fine...

What I am trying to say is that it seems that it has something to do with the position of the sun and moon when you first power up your computer to determine which OS is suitable for it :)

And remember if it works don't fix it...
