I was messing with a home networking setup, and stumbled on a possible solution to encoding speed problems.
Once I had set up my home network, my encoding speed dropped from about 1.9 average to 1.2. I began trying a few different things and realized that it was the networking that was causing the speed problem. As soon as I disconnected from the home network, the speed went back up. I'm not sure why exactly this would affect anything, but it did.
So if you're having problems with slow encoding speeds, try disabling your home network to see if it solves the problem.

I haven't noticed any speed difference in my systems with or without the networking setup, but i'm not doubting you i just would like 2 know exactly why this happens 2 some people.... maybe some testing from peeps that are having networking/slowdowns ect would be in order. Either way good going:) i know when i stumble across things i'm always excited;)

I definitely thought it would be worth sharing, in case someone else is having this problem. Besides, this seems to be the main topic of discussion on these boards, how to get faster encoding speed.

Hmm.. that is a bit strange, what are the stats of your network. 10/100/1000? Router? Switch? Wireless?
Details please :)

It is true that networking requires CPU power but I'm a bit puzzled about ur speed increase.
I use a swicth for my home networking and even though I surf on the net, or use NetOP to remote control my second PC it has no noticable effect on my encoding speed.
Do u test the encoding speed doing the same movie? What kind of applications do u shut down when u shut down ur network?

Basically, I'm completely disabling all file and printer sharing. The only time it slows down when on the network is when the other computer on the network is online, which is most of the time in my case, so it's causing a problem. With the network disabled and my computer as a standalone, the speed is up to 1.7 or so.

What have you set to the highest priority? Programs or background services?
