Just to let you know, # is also the abbreviation for fracture in medicine ( can't speak for the US though). For example C-Spine # = fracture of the cervical spine ( a broken neck). So the new M$ product C#, accordingly is either paralysed or dead

SQL should be pronounced Squeal. They even had the guts to call Windows ME an operating system.

The whole preoccupation with the etymology of the sign in question leads me to...

Certainly I am not so SQUARE as to confine myself to the SHARP definitions set forth by the verbal elite of this and the previous centuries. Nor am I so common as to entangle myself in the popular MESH of colloquia that plague the character in question. If some one were to ask me what would FLASH before my eyes at the phonetic awkwardness of OCTOTHORP(E), I would answer that one might as well enunciate a succession of phonemes, like THUD or THUMP, one after another, and I would pronounce the matter to be as tedious as one could stomach.

...believe that whoever originated the desire to let loose the
vernacular pigs from the PIG-PEN, which once confined such insufferable musings, may as well play a game of TICTACTOE for an equal measure of utility.

...conclude that only one who walks with the GATE of an aristocrat
concerns himself with the subject of the POUND SIGN as a matter of any import.

...think that maybe a HEX does look like a CROSSHATCH, but that it does not make a SCRATCHMARK in the GRID of my thoughts.

...determine that RETICULE is ridiculous and that it should be demoted to a mere vocable!

By the way, I hope Macroshaft's C# will fall and make a big SPLAT on the pavement of the computer market and that Bill Gates will make a
delicious CRUNCH in the mouths of hungry businesses waiting to devour
his market share.

Oh, and D-Flat (true only for even-tempered keyboard instruments in the context of the pun) is a cute neologism.
