I have been using xmpeg 4.5 to encode divx files for a while with no problem at all. I recently upgrade my PC from an Athlon to Pentium 4 1.6A with Abit IT7 motherboard. With exactly the same setup (win2k), xmpeg is having problem with audio on my new pc. When I play back audio (in xmpeg), or encode with mp3, xmpeg will crash in 0 to 3 minutes. If I encode with no audio, everything is fine. I am using divx 5.0.2 and radium and lame codec. Any suggestion on what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.

1. how does it crash?
2. just keeping one mp3 codec in the system might solve the problem
3. could also be a problem with the vobs on hdd, are u able play them smoothly/normal (with e.g. PowerDVD ) ?

Hi Cu Selur,
> 1. how does it crash?
When I encode divx file, I get the following error:
Program error
Xmpeg.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.
I check the log and it's empty.
When I use audio player in xmpeg, I get the following error:
Microsoft Visual C__ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: D:\xmpeg45\Xmpeg.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
After I click ok, I get:
Xmpeg.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x0182de1b" referenced memory at "0x01ad4218". The memory could not be "read." Click on OK to terminate the program.
click ok again, I get:
The instruction at "0x0182c920" referenced memory at "0x01ad3de0". The memory could not be "read." Click on OK to terminate the program.
The error messages are very consistent.

I am using one codec at a time.

The vobs are fine. I was able to use dvd2avi and virtualdub to make encode divx file. Thanks.
