View Full Version : Can't edit DivX in VD (error code -2)

I've used VDub for quite a while with no problems then all of a sudden I get this error message 'VideoSourceAVI error: The source image format is not acceptable. (error code -2)' when I try to edit a DivX 5.0.2 Pro file.
I generally use Xmpeg for movies and VDub for DV, I can still encode DV in VDub and also edit previous VDub encodes but no other avi's I've encoded will work, even one's that I have previously been able to edit. In file information it displays the Panasonic DV Codec instead of DivX for the files that cause this error.
My theory is that when WMP downloaded a codec for some clips I got from a friend which he downloaded from irc it messed something up with the codecs. I'm pretty sure it isn't actually a problem with VDub but with the codec's on my system.
I'm running WinXP Pro.

Maybe u have to check the fourcc code of ur files...

I have the same problem, but only for files I CAPTURED with Divx 5.02.
If I capture to another format and then compress it to Divx 5.02, I can open and edit them with VDub.

Strange - I think I have already checked the fourcc code, but I'll do it again. What can be the difference between captured with VDub/Divx5 and encoded with VDub/Divx5 (absolutely same codec settings!)

I discovered a workaround for this problem, when you go to 'open file' in VDub check the box that says something like 'Pop up extra options'. There will be an option that says something like 'Force fourcc handler code to ', enter divx in the box and all should be ok.

Since my first post I discovered that Windows file properties displays the wrong codec as well. The downloaded clip I played was encoded with DivX 3.11a so I beleive when WMP downloaded the MS codec to play this file it messed up whatever list Windows has to tell it which fourcc code goes with which codec.
I don't know why files encoded using VDub don't suffer this problem, I guess delving into fourcc codes more might enlighten me but at this point I can't be bothered.

Thanks for the replies, I was beginning to think my post was so pathetic that I was being ignored.

I've got a similiar problem. I muxed an ogm in VDMod and selected the wrong soundfile. :o
Now I wanted do demux the Video with VDMod but I got this error message. I tried ogmdemuxer and it did its job. I was now able to mux again with the described solution. But now my question:
Why VDMod muxed the file with a probable wrong fourcc code without any problems? How can I change the fourcc of an ogm?
