I've a abit geforce 2 mx and windows xp pro, now I'm using
nvidia drivers versions 23.11 no problem so far (sometime on windows crash it complain about an error in nv4_disp.dll, but windows says this even the problem is not the video card :D)
I've tryied latest 29.42 but playing divx with divx 5.0.2 (with overlay support, I think the problem also without), my pc
freezes and blue screen, same problem with ffdshow decoder.
So I've undergraded my drivers to 23.11 and no more problems.
I've also tryied on another pc with a newer gf2 mx200, same problem.
Need feedback :p

29.42 works for me.. though if you get nv4_disp.dll errors then you're probably experiencing the well known infinite loop problem.. I've had that once with a gf1 ddr on rc1 of winxp but since I switched the GFX card to a GF2 MX400 I've not had any problems (except for linux not wanting to turn on the 3d accelerated mode). Basically with nvidia drivers try to use the latest but if it doesn't work it doesn't hurt to go back.. they're usually pretty stable (except for that infinite loop thing which in between driver updates of MS, NVidia and VIA should've gotten fixed by now).

I've tried 29.80 (unofficial but m$ certified), same problem,
Now I've found an unofficial 28.84, I've copied setup.exe and installshield stuff into 28.84 dir, Installed and now all works fine.
It's not latest version but more recent than 23.11.
However nvidia drivers act like a lottery :p
Just another fight with desktop icons disposition (argh)

where can i download a working driver for my nvidia Gforce 2 MX400 ? perhaps sherpia have still his manual package :)

Question : does WinXP have a more beautifull Blue screen of dead than Win98 ? :) :) :)

go http://www.tweak.dk/nvidia.php
and download 28.84 (there is no setup.exe).
If you want setup.exe then take latest nvidia drivers, decompress and copy all files from new driver to dir containing 28.84 without overwriting any file (just say no to overwrite for every file asked)
The run setup.exe and cross your fingers :p

Can you post the date of your Motherboard BIOS? Almost always updating it makes wonders in old systems.

My mb is a gigabyte I don't remember the model right now but the bios is the latest (not so updated)...
I've solved my problem installing vendor video drivers (from abit... allined with 27.50). Also my friend with a "gold" gforce not abit has no problem with abit drivers (the setup.exe complains the card is not abit but installing from device manager works fine)
@doom9 nvidia linux driver from works fine even in 3d mode
