View Full Version : Questions on a few parameters....

I'm still pretty new to DVD2SVCD, but I'm intrigued and very interested. There are a few options here and there, however, that I don't understand what they do, and I figure the only way to learn is to ask :) So here is a list of options of which I don't know what they do, I would appreciate it if someone could explain their function to me.

DVD2AVI Tab:
iDTC Algorithm - The default is 32-bit SSE MMX, but another of the options is P4/SSE2, and I use a pentium4, would it be better if I used that option?

Audio Tab:
Autodetect Azid gain (2 pass) - Just what does this do?

Frameserver Tab:
Inverse telecine - What is it?
TemporalSmoother - What effect does it have, and what effect do its parameters have on it?
Bicubic Resize/Bilinear Resize - What pros/cons as opposed to SimpleResize?

Encoder Tab (CCE):
Image Quality Priority - What effect does it have?
Q. Factor - What in the world is that?

Pulldown Tab - What is pulldown anyway?

I know that's kind of a lot of questions, and some of them are probably pretty simple, but I've gotta figure them out sometime, eh? I'd appreciate it if someone would answer these for me :)

Also - There wouldn't happen to be a reference document somewhere that explains all the controls in DVD2SVCD, would there? That'd make this alot easier...

BTW - I know of the advanced/newbie control guide from Doom9, in fact I already looked up all these controls in it, but it doesn't do much more than state the control and give a brief (if any) description. I demand more! ;) j/k, but I would like a good explanation, please :)

Thanks!

Like I stated, I am fully aware of the newbie/advanced reference guides available for dvd2svcd. However, these guides provide little more than perhaps a brief description of, and perhaps the methodology behind, each of the controls. What I request is a more in-depth look at each of the controls I stated. I realize it could be seen as quite a lot to request, and few would be willing to write in such detail, but it would be very appreciated.

I've tried the other...essentially they were same speed and results looked the same...use whichever you wish except don't use the buggy one.

in simple terms it finds the maximum db level without creating distortion. If it was too high your speakers would crackle. Back in the old days it was a guessing game. Well maybe not...it'd still detect an overflow but would take an insane amount of time.

for anime...honestly way over my head..search google.

TemporalSmoother - What effect does it have, and what effect do its parameters have on it?
that's covered pretty in depth throughout this forum..check for posts from ddogg or markrb

Bicubic Resize/Bilinear Resize - What pros/cons as opposed to SimpleResize?
in my testing bicubic gives the best/clearest results. It was the default in dvd2svcd until about 2 months ago. Do you own results and come to your own conclusions. Even though it takes 20% longer encoding with bicubic to me it's worth it.

Encoder Tab (CCE):
Image Quality Priority - What effect does it have?
Q. Factor - What in the world is that?
honestly you did read the advanced reference???

Pulldown Tab - What is pulldown anyway?
I can't believe that you have..with this kind of question.

If you wish to append any stuff please do. I'll add it to the advanced reference. They're are tons of more advanced users than I like Labersack, etc. I've always thought about writing a simple guide explaining what each process does but it's so beyond me now and keeps changing with new stuff that for me to do it is an impossibility.

inverse telecine is something you would use if after burning the first time it came out upside down. At least thats my understanding of it.
