how can i tell betw. 1.85:1,2.10:1, and 2.35:1 Widescreens in FitCD?

I was wondering what would be the easiest way to tell between the following formats in fitcd:

1.85:1
2.10:1
2.35:1

Gerti told m,e I could check at amazon.com to see whether movie is 4:3(1.33:1) or widescreen. They incorrectly list anamorphic widescreen, with standard widescreen and such. For example, they stated Nightmare on elm street 2 is widescreen. So I assumed they meant 2.35:1, ripped and encoded movie to find out when I edited (resized) movie, I had cut off the rh and lh sides because It must have been aws(1.85:1) and not standard widescreen.

I was just wondering how could I tell if movie is aws, ws or 2.10:1 before I encode, can I tell with fitcd?

Also, with dvd2svcd, 2nd cd isnt getting filled up all the way with most moves only about 2/3 full. First cd is full (798 mb) so should i turn up bitrates because they are already at 2350 max, 300 min, 2350 avg, so is min set too low? this is for 1 and half hour movies.

I have some more problems but will do a search on them first to see if someone else had same problems, (some movies not encoding right because vobs are screwed up & jumping from vob to vob.)

Hi-

You could watch the movie-there's an easy to tell difference between 2.35:1 and 1.85:1 (never seen a 2.10:1 in the 300 or so movies I've done). Or you could plug the .d2v into GKnot and crop and resize. It will tell you for sure. Or (and the answer you're probably looking for), go to the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com (http://us.imdb.com/)) and click on the DVD Details and find it. It shows Nightmare on Elm Street as both Anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) and Pan And Scan (unless they mean others in the series are both Full Screen and Wide Screen).

I don't know why you would think that Widescreen (as shown in Amazon.com) meant by definition it was 2.35:1. Anamorphic widescreen movies can be either 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 or any other kind of widescreen.

As for the second one, I've had 2 CDs not filled up for 2 reasons-either I did a one pass VBR encode, or the movie was so compressible that it couldn't fill up the 2nd CD (probably the case for a short, dark movie such as NoES2). I did The Evil Dead the other day and it came up short-it's the same kind of short and dark movie.

2.10 movie is called life as a house. Where can I find GKnot? And I am doing a 3-4 pass vbr encode. Also, the imdb wbsite is inconclusive on a lot of titles. (No description for some of the movies i have such as aspect ratios.)

Damn-you're fast-I was still editing the thing. I've never heard of Life As A House, but IMDB shows it to be 2.35:1. But you're right-IMDB is sometimes inconclusive, and has been known to be outright wrong.

As for GKnot-if all you want is the basic package for cropping and resizing to get the AR, then This (http://gknot.doom9.org/Software/GKnot.rar) will do. But if you'd like to use the whole package to make DivX .avis sometime then you'll need This (http://gknot.doom9.org/Software/GordianKnot.0.21.Setup.exe) along with this Update (http://gknot.doom9.org/Software/GordianKnot.0.26.Update.exe).
