Hello All..

I need some explanation for theses .. From online documentation or from you.. I have searched a little in there but not sure to where I go with all that.

1st, I capture from VHS at 640x480 (NTSC) .. I resize to DVD compliant in CCE at 720x480 ..

2nd, I do my stills for my menus in 720x480 .. about 50 pixels of each border isn't visible after all the job's done and when running in my standalone player. In my PC one, everything's okay. I mean, when I do my authoring in Maestro. I dunno yet for others, and not hurry too..

I know (I think) I have to use a 4:3 ratio in the case of my movie. But how come ? 720x480 isn't a 4:3 ratio !!

I am wondering (didn't checked it yet :( ) if the problems with my still menus does the same with the movies..
I know I am missing important understanding in there, and I would like to know which ones..

Anyone could light my brain up ? :)
Thanx in advance!

In digital video pixels are not square, as they are on a computer monitor. Both NTSC 720x480 and PAL 720x576 are a full frame. You determine what aspect ratio that represents, either 4:3 (which will fill a normal TV screen) or 16:9 (which fills a widescreen TV, or can be letterboxed or pan/scanned by the DVD player)
If you are doing NTSC capture, it would be 4:3. Also, if your capture card supports capturing in 720x480 use that resolution for capture.

With menu stills it is best to start with square pixels, and then resize. That means for a 4:3 NTSC menu start with 720x540 and then shrink (or you can start with 640x480 and stretch). This is so the image will appear normal while you work on it in a paint program.

The missing pixels on a TV are due to overscan, and vary from set to set. Stay away from the edges to make sure your artwork and buttons are displayed.

I know my card support 720 x 480 capture, but in VDub, it seems that it only stands at 640x480 and add me 2 black borders left-right, instead of scaling the image at 720.. Does anyone knows how come ? I could use the MMC TV (I have an All in wonder radeon), but I have too much audio desync and too much of decreased sound using this software. I would like to know either how to correctly set my VDub for capturing or use another program to capture in 720x480.

*Sigh* that's what I'll do!

Thanx for your help!!
