i had to abort my divx4 encoding in gknot after the first pass, later i was able to do the second pass without gknot, but now when i try to append the credits with virtual dub i get the error message "cannot append segments: the video streams have different data formats" they are the same resolutio........what do i do?

It's because you encoded the credits using Full Processing mode. There are some 'old' threads about this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12649 for example) but just redo them unsing Fast mode and you should be fine.

Argh, did you HAVE to bring up one of my newbie questions? :D

ok i'm dumb. lol. since i had done the 2nd pass thru virtual dub and not thru gknot i forgot to set it to fast and it defaulted to full mode. so i just changed the credits to full and it worked. thanks.

@Swede: But a very helpful one at that. Knowing which byte to change has saved me quite a lot of times along the way.
@idiotguy:
Glad to hear it worked out alright.
