View Full Version : Problems with AC3 in Windows XP

I've used SBLive's SPDIF for digital output under Windows 98 for a while without problems.

I've been unable, however, to make AC3 output work in Windows XP.
The SPDIF works ok, but everything with AC3 sounds distorted (kind of slow and muffled)

Can anyone help me make my XP-machine play AC3-sound properly??

Installed:
SBLive 5.1 driver
Audiofilters package (from doom9.org)

I also have problems with WinXP and AC3. My right rear speaker makes crackling sounds the audio gets out of synch, if i pass the ac3 from my dxr3 through the sblive. i don't have a solution for it yet.

If you take a look at the creative forums, you'll notice that many people have probs with SBLive and WinXP.

So i'm using win98 for all DVD and Divx playing again, because there works everything lika a charm.

Finkster: I believe this is to do with the morgan stream switcher. You need to disable it by messing with the registry (thats the only way i could do it). I think you just do a search for morgan in your registry. But i cant remember what i deleted. Will test and let you know.

Download the new Creative drivers released a few days ago.

friendly_guy,

to disable Morgan Stream Switcher, "regsvr32 /u mmswitch.ax" should be enough (called from the path where mmswitch.ax is located at).

For the AC3-SPDIF out, I'm not sure if it helps, but you might want to try the Moonlight Odio Dekoda.

Get this package http://www.elecard.com/ftp/pub/mpeg/decoder/EMpgDec20beta.zip
and register mlcom.ax and mpeg2dmx.ax ("regsvr32 mlcom.ax",...).

Maybe you have to unregister iviaudio.ax (and possible other AC3 decoder filters) to make it work. It solves quite some problems other AC3 direct show filters seem to have (see the other thread "iviaudio.ax - is v2.6 the best choice?" for more :))
