I've had a problem with massively undersized DivX 5.02 encodes using GKnot, and it seems other people have also. As far as I can tell, no one has posted a true solution to the problem. The file sizes I'm talking about are like 350 megs instead of 1400, so this doesn't apply to small undersizes. Here's what I did to fix it:
1. Open GKnot, go to the 'Options' tab, and click 'Delete Registry Keys'
2. Delete the whole GKnot folder
3. Uninstall the DivX 5.02 package. Also run a search for 'divx' and delete everything, especially the .dll files.
4. Reinstall GKnot. When choosing what to install, DESELECT the divx 4.11 codec. I think this is the main problem - if DivX 4 is installed, VirtualDub doesn't recognize DivX 5.
5. Reinstall DivX 5.02 and follow the Doom9's guides.
This worked for me - I was having this problem on two computers, one running WinXP and the other WinME. I tracked it down by looking at the GKnot log, and with the help of a couple posts here. If your GKnot log says 'can't find divx5 log' or something similar, this will probably help. Some of this may be overkill - like deleting the GKnot folder and the .dlls (although, if there are any divx4 .dlls that show up, I would definitely get rid of them), but I didn't want to see what the minimum was I could do to fix the problem.
Hope I helped.
