Problems playing DVD with Ifoedit

Why is it when ever i go to play a backed up DVD with Ifoedit it says:
this player is incompatible with the region marking of this disk.

I get this all the time, I just want to play a minute of these disks to check files. I don't get this message if I play the original disk from my DVD Rom drive, just after I rip the whole DVD to my drive

I am also having this problem, I am trying to establish the chapters for Star Wars EP1, I need this info to split it to 2 DVD-R's.

it might have to do with your system configuration that doesn´t accept region free (code 0) playback. This may happen with Windows 200 or XP. I have a friend who had similar problems playing back a dvd-r region code 0 on his PC.
What ripper do you guys use? Do they already make the rip region free? Can you play back the rip with a software DVD-player?

If not try to rip without removing the region free coding (I know that´s an option in smartripper).

Thx for the reply, my OS is W2K, I have extracted with both DVD Decrypt and Smartripper and both times I get this error message in IFOEdit, I shall try and extract without region code removal tonight, I hope it works.

I did'nt have a chance to play the rip back with my DVD software, again I shall try this tonight...

Have you assigned a region code? (Right-click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, right-click DVD drive, DVD Region tab, select region, ok)?

erm, no I have'nt assigned a region in device manager, will this change the region code on my DVD Drive, I only ask this because I only have 2 changes left.

I have got a DVD Rom Drive as well as the DVD-RW I have them both on different regions for playback (region 2 & 1 in my case) - problem solved.:)

All I am really trying to establish is what title sets I need to copy over to the 2 new ripped folders after splitting a DVD9, the DVD Play button don't work for me and as default IFOEdit does not copy over the VIDEO_TS.IFO and all corresponding menu files.

How about this as a way of determining what TitleSets need to be copied over to the ripped folders.

1. Open VIDEO_TS, don't hit DVD Play cause it DON'T BLIPPING WORK.
2. Look at area in VIDEO_TS.IFO "Number Of Title Play Maps:
3. Here are listed all VTS files. Are these the F****** menu files that I need to copy into my 2 new ripped folders.

Can someone please confirm the above is ok then I will be a VERY HAPPY CHAPPIE.

Now, does the DVD player work before you split into 2 dvds? Hopefully it does so you need to use DVD player b4 splitting - go through menus etc until the film plays. then stop & exit. It will tell you what titles have been played. exit and it will drop you into the film IFO file which will have the corresponding titles to VTS_xx vob sets.
When you have split the film - you will need to copy all the VIDEO_TS.xxx files all the VTS_xx files that you identified when playing the DVD player. N.B. don't forget to copy the VTS_xx_0.vob file.

Failing this, usually when you split a film vobset into 2 x DVD's and strip out any streams you don't need - there is usually enough room to copy all the other files onto each disc anyway. Note I said usually!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I finally figured out why it was not playing back the ripped version of the EP1 R2 in IFOEdit, for some bizzare reason DVD Decrypt was not removing the region/RCE protection from the VTS_06_0.IFO etc, I got round this by running Region Patch on all IFO & BUP files one at a time, once I did this it played back in IFOEdit.

The below are all the Titles played up until the beginning of the movie:
Title 1:VTS_6
Title 2:VTS_5
Title 10:VTS_2
Title 15:VTS_1

I came to copying over from the original movie rip the VTS_6 etc into the newly created folders but I have hit a stumbling block, VTS_06_0.IFO already exists in the new folders, IFOEdit has already created them. I decide to overwrite them with the ripped versions, once copied over I did a Get VTS on VTS_06_0.IFO, then played the movie but guess what it did'nt work "NO VALID DVD - VIDEO VOLUME COULD BE LOCATED", can you help and tell me what I am doing wrong.

I also ran the split again, but this time I did not overwrite the VTS_06_0.IFO, same problem.

Is Star Wars Episode 1 the wrong DVD to do my first DVD9 split????
