You should really try this one :D

Besides the "lack" of options it does not even have automatic I-frame insertion on scene-changes.

Just to make it clear: these are ONLY frames after scene-changes.

"Normal" frames look better.

btw, mpegable also have a standalone mp4-encoder.

No, I have seen your attachment, that is why I had to ask. Let say, from someone who isn't you, you're statements in this thread sound like you're defending this codec and that it performs well. when in fact, what I've gotten from this codec is horrible as are your screen shots.

I don't care how good the other frames are if the sceen changes are that bad! Ack! The standalone would be nice, but maybe they should invest in the Xvid codec?

I just tried mpegable's evaluation kit, here are my early conclusions:

1) The the video codec sucks, the results are similar to QT6's mpeg-4 encoder - blocky and ugly at any bitrate.

2) The player shows promise. It is the only commercial/proprietary player besides QT6 that I have seen that can play both the video and the audio from an .mp4 encoded with DivX and Psytel (muxed with mpeg4ip). The visual quality is much better than QT6, but the audio goes wildly out of sync even on short clips. Hopefully they will work out this bug and this will be a nice player.
